Final year students of Gyutiev Model College in Benue State have torched their principal's house in protest over allegations of misconduct.
The incident occurred on June 27, 2025, after students discovered that Mr. Isaac Yina, the principal, allegedly failed to register them for the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) despite collecting N85,000 each from 178 students.
The students claim the principal collected the money but did not fulfill his promise to register them for NECO. Frustrated by the situation, the students took matters into their own hands and set the principal's house on fire during the early hours of the morning.
Authorities are likely to investigate the matter, and the school may face scrutiny over its management practices.
The incident highlights the need for transparency and accountability in school management, particularly in handling student fees and examination registrations. The situation may lead to further actions against the principal and the school administration.
