The Vice President of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin, and his wife, Maria Alckmin, arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday to kick off the Second Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM).
The high-profile visit marks a significant milestone in Nigeria's South-South diplomatic engagement and is expected to yield policy breakthroughs across multiple sectors.
The Brazilian delegation was warmly received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by key Nigerian government officials, including Deputy Chief of Staff Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia and Ministers of Industry, Trade and Investment, Livestock Development, and Agriculture and Food Security.
Hadejia emphasized the importance of deepening ties with Brazil, highlighting the potential for tangible benefits to Nigerian citizens through South-South partnerships.
The three-day summit is expected to culminate in the signing of over 30 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across critical sectors, including:
- Defence cooperation
- Agricultural technology transfer
- Energy collaboration
- Cultural exchange programmes
The dialogue aligns with Nigeria's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on leveraging Brazil's expertise in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial development to drive transformation.
This visit represents a significant step in strengthening Nigeria-Brazil relations and exploring opportunities for mutual benefit.
