In a surprise move, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has stepped down as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately.
Sources cited health concerns as the reason for his resignation, stating that he needs to focus on his personal health and overall well-being.
Ganduje submitted his resignation letter to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) on June 27, 2025. Sources further revealed that Ganduje’s personal belongings were earlier moved from his office at the APC national secretariat, further fueling speculation.
The National Vice Chairman is expected to take over as acting chairman pending the party's convention in December.
The APC has not released an official statement on the matter, but sources suggest that consultations are underway to determine Ganduje's interim replacement.
Some speculate that rising political tension, internal discontent, and allegations of financial impropriety may have contributed to Ganduje's decision to resign.
Ganduje's tenure as APC National Chairman was marked by controversy, including allegations of regional bias and financial impropriety. In April 2024, a Kano State High Court issued an ex parte order restraining Ganduje from parading himself as a party member.
