Air Peace has strongly refuted allegations of extortion and overbooking made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, labeling his claims as "deliberate falsehood". Read here.
The airline's management released a statement on Thursday, challenging Oshiomhole to provide evidence of any passenger who was extorted.
According to Air Peace, no tickets were sold after the check-in closure for the flight in question, and the aircraft took off with over 30 empty seats.
This contradicts Oshiomhole's allegations of overbooking and extortion. The airline emphasized that it prioritizes on-time performance over monetary gains, stating it would not sacrifice this standard to accommodate late passengers.
The dispute arose when Senator Oshiomhole missed his Air Peace flight from Lagos to Abuja due to what the airline claims was his late arrival.
Oshiomhole alleges that Air Peace was selling tickets at inflated prices to passengers who were willing to pay more, while denying boarding to those who had booked online.
Air Peace denies these allegations, stating that Oshiomhole's actions were disruptive and that he jumped on the baggage conveyor belt, preventing check-in processes for other flights, and barricaded the entrance gate.
“He came to the airport late and was told that he was late. He then began to forment trouble. He jumped on the baggage conveyor belt preventing the check-in process of other flights. He also barricaded the entrance gate and prevented access to the terminal,” they said.
The airline has called on the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to release CCTV footage of the incident to support their version of events.
“We call on FAAN to release the CCTV coverage starting from the time Senator Oshiomhole entered the airport, for Nigerians to see. His accusation of extortion is very defamatory. His conduct was very violent, unbecoming, unfortunate and above all, shameful,” the statement added.
