My songs ginger Wike to face his opponents, says band leader Bamidele

Sensational Bamidele, the gospel musician, says he does not sing to spite perceived opponents of Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state.

Bamidele is the leader of a live band that usually performs at the project commissioning ceremonies of Wike.

In a chat with BBC Pidgin, the musician said his songs are aimed at giving the governor the motivation to face his opponents.

“I don’t join him in fighting his perceived opponents, I don’t fight those making him angry, I only give him the vibes that he needs to fight with those against him,” he said.

Bamidele said his songs are usually inspired by happenings around an event and the mood of the governor.

“I usually create the songs with my head. My song is usually created based on everything that’s happening at a particular event and what he (Wike) is also saying,” he said.

“Basically, his mood determines what we do. There are times when he comes to event looking angry

“So, we pay attention to what he is saying and from there, we form lyrics for our song to motivate him.

“We don’t do rehearsals with the governor before events. We’re familiar with what he likes. His reaction at events determines if we have done well for the day or not.”

Bamidele also revealed that he started out as a secular musician before delving into gospel music.

The singer, born Bamidele Adeek, was recently in the news after he survived a ghastly accident in Rivers.
