CHAN 2023: Nigeria, Ghana renew rivalry in Cape Coast jollof derby

Perennial rivals, Ghana and Nigeria will clash once again in the “jollof derby” at the Cape Coast Stadium today.

The 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) first leg fixture promises to be an interesting affair as both teams seek a return to the competition.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the last edition of the competition hosted by Cameroon losing out to Togo.

The home-based Super Eagles made it to the final in the previous edition of the competition but lost 4-0 to host nation Morocco.

Ghana on the other hand has failed to qualify for the last three editions of the competition.

The Black Galaxies defeated the Benin Republic 4-0 on aggregate in the first round to set up a date with the Super Eagles.

Walker Annor’s side spent a week in Austria to prepare for the game against Nigeria.

The reverse fixture is billed for the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja on Saturday, September 3.

The overall winners will earn a berth at CHAN 2023 to be hosted by Algeria.

The CHAN is meant for players plying their trade in their country’s domestic leagues.
