2023: MKO Abiola would’ve been president if money could buy presidency – Orji Uzor Kalu

The Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has said a Nigerian president can only be produced through consensus and not money.

Kalu said the late MKO Abiola would have become Nigeria’s president if money could purchase the highest political seat in the country.

He noted that delegates would collect money from politicians and still vote for their conscience.

The former Abia State Governor made the comment via a Facebook post.

The lawmaker wrote: “The earliest Nigerians and presidential aspirants understand that no amount of money can buy the president of the country, the better for everyone.

“It is only cohesion and consensus among the regions that can produce a president. If you throw in money, the majority of the electorates will collect the money but still vote according to their conscience.

“If money can buy the office of the president of Nigeria, Late MKO Abiola could have bought it with extra change.

“If money can buy the president, former President Goodluck Jonathan could have bought the presidential seat in 2015.”

  1. Oga Kalu, that is why Nigeria has been in a mess for so long and it must change. No more choosing of successor by cabals. Becoming a president by means of money or by the consensus of a dubious and faceless cabal is not what we want. We want everything to be democratic and open!
