Gunshots as End SARS protesters invade Owu festival, demand Obasanjo’s attention

There were sporadic gunshots at the 2020 Owu festival as youths calling for the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) invaded the venue of the festival in Oke Ago-Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Owu is the ancestral home of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo, who is the Balogun of Owu Kingdom, was at the annual event when the #EndSARS protesters stormed the palace of the Olowu, Oba Adegboyega Dosumu.

The protesters barricaded the entrance of the festival, seeking an audience with Obasanjo.

The refusal of security agents to grant them access into the premises of the Olowu’s palace infuriated the youths as they chanted repeatedly on top of their voices: “End SARS!”

A policeman was attacked while making efforts to disperse the protesters.

Consequent upon this, other policemen and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps started to shoot into the air to send away the protesters.

People scampered to safety as the security agents fired gunshots intermittently.

The Ogun youths were condemned by locals for taking their protest to an event which has nothing to do with their agitation.
