Ondo 2020: Corps members ‘ll be adequately protected – INEC

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission,  Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has expressed the assurance that corps members who would participate as ad hoc staff in the Ondo State Governorship Election in October would be adequately protected.

The INEC Chairman stated this during the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting held at the Conference Room of the INEC State Office in Akure, the state capital.

Yakubu, was in the state on an official visit from Wednesday to Friday last week, in preparation for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

According to him, the success recorded during the recently held election in Edo State was an indication that the commission was improving on its operation, and could not afford to lower the performance, come October 10, 2020.

He said, “The NYSC is one of our principal partners at ensuring that we have a credible, free, fair, and generally acceptable election and we shall do all things legally possible to make sure that their participation is not in any way jeopardised.”

The INEC boss also expressed the readiness of the commission to conduct another successful election in Ondo State, saying that all hands must remain on the deck and leverage on the Edo experience.

Earlier in her contribution at the meeting, the State Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, restated the stand of the NYSC management that corps members should not be posted to riverine areas for the election duties.
