‘I’m not just a fan but a member of Fela’s household’ — Sowore hits back at Burna Boy

Omoyele Sowore, convener of the RevolutionNow protest, has replied Burna Boy, an Afrofusion singer, for calling him a “fake” fan of Fela Kuti, late Afrobeat legend.

Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, had invited the ‘African Giant’ crooner to join the group in its planned protest on October 1, which is Nigeria’s 60th Independence Day anniversary.

The former presidential candidate said Burna Boy is famed as a revolutionary musician to the extent he is even compared to the late Afrobeat icon by the foreign media.

The politician, however, wondered why the ‘Ye’ singer had never led any protest in the country.

In his reply, Burna Boy rejected Sowore’s invitation, comparing him to one of the country’s politicians, whom he never trusted.

“Everybody is a Fela fan and supporter now that he is dead. Humans are so Funny, You politicians are ALL the same (especially in Nigeria) and Frankly I don’t trust none of you,” the singer wrote.

The politician cum activist, however, fired back, telling Burna Boy that he was not just a fan of the late singer but a member of his household.

“Burna Boy, I am not just one of the persons who you could describe as “Fela’s fan after he died,” I am a member of Fela’s household, ask @RealSeunKuti, as a student’s leader in the 90’s I met and hung out with Abami Eda at home and the African shrine! If you want to be Fela be Fela,” Sowore wrote.
