DSS hires youths to disrupt sit-at-home – IPOB alleges

The Indigenous People of Biafra has warned of plans by the Department of State Services, DSS to use hired youths to sabotage the May 30th sit-at-home protest.

IPOB media and publicity secretary, Mr Emma Powerful said in a press statement that over 100 youths have been hired, with t-shirts bearing the same inscription IPOB printed on them to be used Tuesday to impersonate genuine members.

Powerful said the game plan was for the DSS to use the youths to cause trouble, so as to turn back and blame it for making trouble, while justifying its plan to kill innocent youths.

He said: “There is information that the DSS arranged hundreds of youths with T-shirts written IPOB that will come out on the streets to cause confusion. They will say that IPOB is causing problems in the town.

“The soldiers have perfected this arrangement to kill our people, therefore we are calling Biafran to stay in doors to avoid being their victim,” Powerful stated.

Meanwhile, police in Anambra has assured residents of the state to go about their normal businesses and disregard the call for all to sit at home.

Police commissioner, Sam Okaula in an interview recently said his men were very prepared to secure the people, adding that declaring a sit-at-home protest was not a lawful way by any group to pursue a legal cause.

“We will not allow anyone take laws into their hands. If they are pursuing a cause, they should go about it the normal way. We urge everyone to go about their normal duties,” Okaula said.

  1. This is the kind of falsehood that undermines IPOB's cause. Within Igbo land, there are many who do not support IPOB. So when those people now oppose IPOB's sit-at-home order, IPOB will now say it is the government or DSS that sponsored it. If indeed DSS can get your own people to oppose you, then it can only be that the people you think you represent do not support you.

IPOB and other groups agitating for secession need to pursue their cause by first electing leaders who share their vision. If all or majority of Igbo legislators in the National Assembly believe in the Biafra cause, the National Assembly would not be able to ignore them, and it would eventually force a referendum. That could then lead to the Biafra of their dreams - if the referendum confirms that majority of Igbos indeed want to leave Nigeria. But IPOB just making noise and embarking in a campaign of falsehood and blackmail is not the way to a peaceful secession.
