Team Nigeria is ranked seventh in the top 10 most successful Africa nations at the Olympic Games.
Ahead of the official opening ceremony at this year's games in Rio according to a list compiled by BBCAfrica, Team Nigeria occupy the seventh spot with three gold, eight silver and 12 bronze medals.
In first position is Kenya who have 25 gold, 32 silver, 29 bronze medals.
South Africa are second with 23 gold 26 silver, 27 bronze. Ethiopia are placed third with 21 gold, seven silver, 17 bronze, while Egypt take up fourth position with seven gold, nine silver and 10 bronze.
Other countries listed in the top 10 are Morocco, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Tunisia and Cameroon.
Team Nigeria's first ever medal at the Olympics was in Tokyo 1964 when Nojeem Maiyegun won bronze in boxing.
Meanwhile, at the London 2012 Olympics, Team Nigeria failed to pick up a single medal.
