Reasons why I appointed 147 aides — Taraba governor

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State, has said he appointed 147 Advisers and Special Assistants as a means of reducing unemployment in the state.

But All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, has faulted the appointments, saying it is a waste of scarce resources even when others are reducing cost of governance.

The governor, who spoke in Jalingo, while briefing on his achievements in the past one year in office, noted that on assumption of office, he discovered that apart from civil servants who worked at local governments and state level, there were no industries that could generate employment for the youths; hence he decided to enlarge the number of political appointees as a means of engaging some people to work.

He said: “We need to create jobs opportunities and empower them through such appointments because we have a state that is purely a civil servants state and I decided to enlarge the number of appointments in other to spread welfare to the citizens of the state. But reacting, Chairman APC in Taraba State, Harsan Ardo Jika, condemned the bogus appointments, saying such appointments were misplacement of priority and a waste of resources.
