Nigerians are suffering, Buhari must stop needless foreign trips, US trip is “joke of the year” - Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has called on well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on President Mohammadu Buhari to stop his needless foreign trips, describing the president’s trip to the United States of America on Wednesday for the 4th Nuclear Security Summit while Nigerians are suffering at home as “joke of the year.”

The governor said “it remains a mystery what President Buhari that met power generation at 6,000MW and could not manage it such that power generation crumbled to Zero Megawatt yesterday, will contribute to the Nuclear Energy Summit in America.”

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “it is shameful that while President Buhari was far away in the United States of America, attending a summit that does not have any bearing on Nigeria and its people, an unprecedented happened - power generation stopped completely for over three hours!”

He said the sufferings of Nigerians deserved the attention of the president instead of junketing around the world, wasting the country’s scarce foreign exchange. The governor alleged that over $50 million must have been spent on the president’s frequent foreign trips, adding that Nigerians should ask President Buhari whether his trip to the United States of America to attend Nuclear Energy Summit will bring the lingering fuel scarcity being experienced in the country to an end.

“Nigerians are suffering. Petrol has become so scarce that our people now sleep in petrol stations to buy fuel at N200 per litre while the president who should alleviate their sufferings is in the USA, attending a summit that he won’t even understand whatever that is discussed there. “This is not acceptable. Mr President should stay at home and see to it that at least, power generation returns to 6,000MW that he met it if he cannot add to it.

“Mr President should stay at home and bring this fuel scarcity that has paralysed almost all activities in the country to an end. “Nigerians are saying their president should stay at home and bring to an end the killings, raping of women and destruction of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen.

“Most importantly, the President should listen more to those of us who criticise him instead of those hailing every of his wrong steps either because of what they intend to gain or for fear of persecution,” the governor said.

  2. But why can’t the president send his deputy or the minister in charge of energy or related ministry to attend the conference. Why does he have to make all these foreign trips? So far 26 international travels since 10 months in office and 3 times alone to the U.S. Nigerians are suffering. He should travel more around Nigeria – especially the Eastern region and Northeast and see how Nigerians are suffering.

    1. Fayose's not looking at the President in the eyes and saying the truth. His criticism is becoming unreasonable. It's not everything that the President does, that he (Fayose) must criticize. Upon all his criticism, has he ever proffer a single solution to the many problems facing the nation? There're criticism, and more criticism, but it be constructive and idealistic with options to solve problems, not noise making.

  10. Fayose has forgotten that nothing was working as at 29th may when PMB took over. There was no electricity. But the man you said was not well and may probably die in office, how come he now become strong enough globetrotting.

  11. Youths should not use social media as a means of disrespect and Partisan war fare, let's see the truth and handle it squarely. Mr President is indulging in too many unwanted and ineffective abroad trips, which he would have shelved or delegate his Vice or Minister (Science and Technology) and attend to the cries of the people's need. Just making common sense

  12. Fellow Nigerians I submit to you that we will not move forward until we leave party issues and uncle Jona and make this present administration to be responsible for every thing that goes wrong. I support Fayose stand against this clueless and low self-esteem government. If in other countries some of them should have resigned there appointment because nothing is really working except the faith of Nigerians that is still alive

  14. As much as I want to read the news and go on without making a comment, I think keeping mute has long out lived it's usefulness.

Our dear President it's because you are not an expert in all fields that was why you selected ministers to help you in their various fields of specialization. You chose to do it for six months or there about delaying their appointments, see where we landed. However no lesson was learnt sir That you're not an island thus cannot do everything by yourself.

Please allow the various ministers heading those respective ministeries where this conferences are held to go and do their job's sir by representing us, interacting with like-minded colleagues, learning from what's being shared and bringing such knowledge home to apply in their ministeries. It will cost the nation less sir. For they will travel with less entourage and demand less VIP treatment abroad allowing more monies in the TSA for you to watch over sir.

When you represent us everywhere sir, the knowledge doesn't go back to the ministry sir and thus of what impact has it made to the nation if it's not utilized.

Sir you're the minister of petroleum sir and we are currently hit with petroleum scarcity at the moment. shouldn't you be here rubbing minds with the entire team in d petroleum ministry to remedy this problem sir since Mr. Kachukwu is no magician hence has a limit to his capabilities sir?

    3. FACT: Do you know that under our past military government ,the Head of State controls all states in Nigeria. The military administrators and ministers where figure heads,, selected from a pool of loyal soldiers who partook in a successful coup takeover...
Buhari still shows this mentality of directly controlling all the government ministries..

  15. Fayose should stop passing insult on our President under the guise of criticising him. Fayose thinks he's more intelligent and intellectually sound than PMB, but I make bold to state that PMB is by far more intelligent and intellectually sound than him considering his years of experience and military background. Imagine him saying that PMB ".... .attending a summit that he won't even understand whatever that is discussed there." This statement coming out of a Gov to his President is rather unfortunate and speaks volume of the personality of the Gov himself. Nobody says you should not criticise but your criticism must be seen to be constructive devoid of any ill-feelings against the person you are criticising. A word they say is enough for the wise.

    1. Maybe it is because he interfaces one-on-one with the president and his team that he has the confidence to make that statement. And he also has education and government experience. I don't know the basis for your own conclusion. I am more inclined to believe Fayose because he is here talking to the nation. Where is your beloved nomad and what is he saying? Nothing.
