Reasons why we transferred Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka from Enugu to Emene - Catholic church

The Catholic Church has explained the recent transfer of controversial Catholic priest, Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka from Enugu to Emene.

The Church said the essence of his transfer was to make him more useful.

In a reaction through the Secretary-General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Reverend Father Ralph Madu, yesterday, the church said the posting was not meant to be punitive but a “normal church procedure.”

According to him, “Mbaka’s transfer is not an exception; the Bishop has the right to post any priest wherever he feels his service would be more useful to the church.

“ His posting should have been a privilege, not a punishment – which the Bishop can do because he has the power.

“If he (Mbaka) says it’s a punishment, then it’s open for further investigation. Posting is a regular thing, a priest can be transferred after two, three, four, or more years. It depends on the discretion of the Bishop.

“That ministry (Adoration Ministry) is his private ministry. It does not belong to the church. Overseeing a parish is a full time job. Overseeing a ministry is a bigger task. If the church decides to take him somewhere where he’ll have more time to carry out his ministry, how is it punitive? That should not be the language.”

Madu said Fr. Mbaka had done things that were unacceptable to the church in the past but received no punishments for them.

He said: “He is supposed to be a missionary. What if the Bishop had closed down the ministry , which is within his power to do? Sometimes, transfers can be for the good of the priest as something can be going wrong which he might not be aware of. The Bishop is free to move any priest at any time, it is his prerogative.”

Criticisms had greeted the Enugu Diocese’s recent decision to transfer Mr. Mbaka out of Christ the King Parish , GRA, where he had served for over a decade and had established a popular prayer ministry, the Adoration Prayer Ministry.

Fr Mbaka is to resume immediately at his new post at the Our Lady Parish, Emene. The priest, who is as fiery as he is controversial, had described his re-posting by the church as a “calculated move” to make him suffer.”

  2. The Catholic Church has no explanation to give to any body. If Mbaka is not comfortable with the posting he can quit from the church and form his own. After all a priest was transferred from Christ the King parish before he was posted there now that he has been transferred for another priest to go there he is making news all over the place. This shows that he has ulterior motive. Had it been he bought the adoration ground with his own money he will probably tow the line of Fr. Edeh. The Apostles who spread the gospel to reach him all went to prison and were all tortured but for him he has never experienced any of these and he's making noise.

    1. Say what you are sure of. From your comment about rev.fr.Mbaka it very clear that you don't know him at all. And you don't know Christ the king parish ENUGU. Rev.fr.Mbaka is obedient, committed, devoted, responsible and a worthy apostle but not perfect because he is not God.

  3. You didn't need to explain to the outside world how the church run her affairs. If not because fr. Mbaka has become more political than spiritual

  4. Honestly Rev. Mbaka has long ceased being a Catholic Priest. He should open his own church and do his miracles there and make his forecasts there or better still even more join politics. Most Catholics are embarrassed by his conducts in the last six years. He should really move on and build his own university buy his private Jets and just run the full course of what he has started.

  7. The Bishop of Rome once posted an upright, uncompromising priest, Father Albino Luciano, to a little know parish in a hilly country. While some saw it for what it was meant: banishment for a priest who had become a thorn in the flesh of a corrupt Vatican leadership; it turned out to be a blessing to, not only the Catholic Church, but to humanity as a whole - that priest, Albino Luciano, later became Pope John Paul. He was assassinated just 28 days after he became Pope; which assassination was orchestrated by the same forces that 'threw' him out to the little known parish. The legacy Pope John Paul left after just 28 days as Pope far outweigh those all modern Popes joined together. Rev. Father Mbaka has certainly stood up against the corrupt leadership of the Catholic Church in Nigeria; he is fiercely against evil and corruption in the country; and the true believers, the masses, love him. He will take it in good faith, I assure you all, after overcoming the initial shock. By the time he commits his present situation to God, the true purpose for which God has allowed him to be 'thrown' away will surely come to be fulfilled. If Father Mbaka will, by any chance get to read this post, let him know that there is at least one person who believes he (Mbaka) is doing good; and the Lord will surely reward him.
