BAYELSA: ‘I’ve performed better than Sylva’ - Dickson

Governor Seriake Dickson said yesterday that he performed better than his predecessor and the standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva.

Dickson, who spoke in Yenagoa, said his achievements would convince the people to vote for him on December 5.

Said he: “Even a blind man will tell you that you cannot compare our performance with that of Sylva. The difference between me and Sylva is like that between day and night.

“In what area can you compare? In terms of acquiring liabilities and debts for our state? Or are you going to measure the performance by the number of killings in the state? In every area, talking about peace, security and development, we know that there is no comparison.”

Dickson said his achievements were visible in all sectors of the economy.

“We have changed the face of politics in Bayelsa State.”

He said his administration emphasised the importance of the people as the centre of development and accountability, thus elevating democracy.

Dickson said: “For example, every month we announce what comes in, in terms of revenue and how we spend it. We are empowering the people mentally and democratically to take charge of their future.”

He listed development in education, roads and bridges, health, public buildings, agriculture, empowerment and the airport project at Amassoma as some of his achievements.

Dickson said he was confident of victory.

His words: “If we have built the number of schools we have built within this period, despite the short fall in allocation, if we have done the sort of things we have done within this period; if I do not feel confident that I have done enough, then I do not know the governor that should run for a second term because frankly, if a governor were to do the sort of things I have done, he will win. This is my view. I have interacted with our people, they say I deserve more than a second term. So I am confident.”

  1. If anybody says; you deserve a second tenure, hmmm, they are deceiving you. That was how they deceive GEJ to believing that he will win. Frankly speaking, on my personal assessment, you don't deserve at all. But to be candid, Sylva is not an option, he could be worse except he has "changed". But wait! can the leopard change its skin? Look at Bayelsa of less than 2million people, poverty everywhere yet our federal allocation is more than many states of the feration. There are so much bad internal roads in Yenagoa, no good well equipped state owned hospital in Yenagoa or in the local govt areas, no bridges yet that connect to all the local govt hqtrs, no development agenda to empower the people or prepare them for employment. When was the last time, an employment exercise was done for the unemployed in the state, its over ten years and no single recruitment exercise has been made public to fill in vacant positions in the civil services, may be few man-know -man replacements. Do you honestly think Sylva or Dickson deserves our votes? For me, they are both letter 'd' short of devil. But to choose between them? Hmmm, I will thumbprint ..........
