Thousands of Muslim faithful known as Ahbabu Rasul- S.A.W on Friday stormed the Kano State Government House and the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi II to protest the blaspheming of Prophet Muhammed by a preacher, Abdul Nyass.
The demonstrators who are mainly youths took to the streets of Kano, carrying sticks and other weapons to show their displeasure with the alleged blasphemous statements against the prophet.
The youths who attempted to gain entrance into the state government house were prevented by security operatives, who had hectic time calming the apprehensive youths.
The youths who were chanting “Allahu Akbar,” meaning God is great, temporarily ceased the government house for about an hour before the intervention of government officials and security agents who also formed a barricade around the premises.
However, the intervention of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso saved the situation which would have snowballed into a bloody clash between the demonstrators and the security agents manning gates of the government house.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for State Affairs, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo and the Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr, Yunusa Dangoni, invited the leader of the sect, Sherriff Sani Jan-bluo, to the government house and asked him to calm the frayed nerves of the youths.

ReplyDeleteThe verdict by a so-called Shariah Court in Kano, Nigeria, sentencing nine people to death for blaspheming the Prophet is absurd. The defendants do not seem to have even been given the chance to repent, whereas in the life story of our beloved Prophet we come across several examples of how he forgave those who lampooned him no sooner they sought his forgiveness, a good example being the poet Kab Ibn Zuhair.
ReplyDeleteThe verdict was driven by the fear of the authorities that extremists would riot had the death sentences not been handed down. This is a travesty of justice since the authorities were bowing to the will of the mob than let the law take its usual course and serves as a bad precedent for mob rule, as we have seen in Pakistan with all its attendant evils. Give the mob power and you’re only paving the way for anarchy and chaos.
Such mobs taking the law to their own hands should be shot on sight. Those who show no mercy should not be shown any mercy. This is the only way we can rid this cancer from our society.
