REVEALED: Why Rivers deputy governor dumped APC for PDP

The deputy to Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Mr Tele Ikuru has dumped his All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, describing the APC as “A party of rebels, insurgents and anarchists, clothed in robes of pretence and deceit.”

Governor Amaehi, has, meanwhile, expressed shock at the resignation, even as he regretted what he described as the ‘dishonourable lies’ given by the deputy for making his exit from the party.

However, the President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation welcomed the development and called on other leaders of the APC in Rivers State to emulate Ikuru, and totally agreeing with Ikuru’s description of APC as a party of deceit.

Ikuru, in a statement, said: “My dear people of Rivers State, I bring you honest and sincere greetings. Today (Sunday), I address you out of the fullness of my heart. Recall that in December 2013, out of extreme loyalty to my boss and friend, I joined the APC, along with other then disillusioned Rivers people.

“Ever since, as the true nature and motives of APC are unveiled, I have continued to twist and turn in extreme mental and emotional agony. The more I struggled to belong, the more the Rivers man in me rejects the APC.

“After carefully studying, interacting and analyzing the leadership of the party, I have come to the sad conclusion that the APC is a party of rebels, insurgents and anarchists, clothed in robes of pretence and deceit. APC is a party founded on deception and it thrives on unholy propaganda and falsehood.

“I, therefore, on behalf of my teaming supporters, and my humble self denounce the APC and we all jointly and severally resign our membership of the APC.

“My dear people of Rivers State, we of this generation will not in good conscience expect forgiveness and compassion from our forebears, posterity, and the spirit of our unborn generations if it is recorded in the annals of history that after 48 years of Rivers people supporting leaders from all other parts of this country with our votes and resources, we were the same that witch hunted and hounded down the very first ever president from this region, granted us by providence. I wash my hands off the treachery.

“In the light of the above, I wish to urge all my supporters, the good people of Rivers State to join hands with others to vote for President Jonathan and the transformation agenda that has brought so much relief and succor to the greatest number of Nigerians. I also urge all Rivers people to vote for Chief Nyesom Wike (PDP governorship candidate in the state), who has shown by his antecedents, track records and boundless capabilities that he will deliver good governance to the people of Rivers State.”

Governor Amaechi in a statement by his Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari said the action of his deputy had confirmed speculations in several quarters that he was a mole in the APC, adding that like every Nigerian, Ikuru was free to belong to any political party.

“Whilst the news remains unofficial at this time as the Deputy Governor is yet to notify the governor of this move, Governor Amaechi, however, wishes Engr Ikuru all the best in his future political endeavours.

“He, however, wishes to note that the reasons adduced by Engr Ikuru are shocking as Deputy Governor lkuru has consistently been the one driving political activities in his local government area of Andoni and has been the second in command driving politics and governance in Rivers state,” he said.

President Jonathan, speaking through his campaign spokesman, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, said in a statement, in Abuja that the PDP was happy to receive Ikuru back into its family.

He said: “We are glad to hear about the return of the deputy governor of Rivers State, Tele Ikuru, to the PDP family. This was a deeply courageous step and we welcome him with open arms.”

Rivers State Chairman of the APC, Dr Davies Ikanya, said that Ikuru’s exit from the party was inconsequential, dismissing allegations of power tussle between him and the deputy governor.
“His exist does not mean anything to our party. Everybody has one vote. He has only one vote. Watch out, now that he has left more PDP members will join the party from the area.”

    1. Does he need to mention. Is it not obvious that Amechi has railroaded the entire PDP structure in Rivers State to APC just because he has a personal score to settle with the president and his wife and not necessarily because Jonathan has not performed?

  3. Ikuru is nothing but another FFK of APC.

This is why it is always good never to say one thing in public and in secret be hatching another thing that will be detrimental to the interest of the same public just like the usual practice of our CiC GEJ.

When they postponed election, majority of Nigerians indicated that it was with sinister motive, even Papa OBJ indicated that it was clearly for the fear of woeful lose by PDP/GEJ. We all remember how GEJ tried unsuccessfully to convince Nigerians otherwise. Was it not just last week that OPC Fasheun confessed to the full glare of Cameras as posted on youtube that they indeed initiated the move to postponed since they assessed that GEJ will loose woefully.

I have always known Ikuru not to be a man of progressive principles from the way he handled the issue of the renegade Rivers State law makers.

I have always personally assessed him as an individual that only strives for survival and not really for any notable leadership cause.

Judging the way, he was empowered to be visible in the APC Electioneering, the reasons proffered by as basis for his defection are ludicrous since he was an active leader in some of the activities.

Shame on you Ikuru, you are really a disappointment to the future Patriotic Elites.

  5. Unless one is blind mentally and otherwise, the deceit, lies and extreme propaganda of APC is easily palpable. The hate and anarchy being shown to the president because of his humane and mild nature is second to none. The problems of Nigeria which he inherited are slowly and gradually being solved. It's solution can't happen overnight. He has done creditably well, but Thiefnubu and co cos of vested selfish and greedy interests will easily deceive gullible youth especially from the south-west to have a deep seated hate for the president, same goes with majority of people from the north who follows on emotions and sheepishly jettison sound reason just to see their kin in position of power. No sound mind will swallow the deceits and lies of APC. Yes, am happy that there is a strong opposition cos it will make each of the party to sit up, but then positioning a party based on lies makes one to throw up especially when you're not gullible and you do understand the true nature of things. Presenting an extremist as your flag bearer now raises serious red flags.. let's try and get it right for once, using our head not emotions.

  6. This is not the best of times for this resignation as it will make Rivers state undecided voters to follow his way
There are many members of APC in Rivers state that have plans to leave the party but they were afraid so in the next few days more may come out to renounce their membership
    That's politics for you

  10. Amaechi is the most corrupt gov in Nigeria. Ikuru was dying in silence and misguided loyalty. If you think he made his decision for money, the other APC deputies would have shouted that they were equally bribed. Everything is mo ego

  12. Democracy in action. The beauty of democracy is the right of choice of the individual or group. Ikulu has made his choice and has stated his reasons. There is hardly anyone in a better position to state it as he sees it, having occupied a very prominent position in his erstwhile party. Thank God he saw the light before it was too late!

    1. Let us not be ignorant of the fact that Ikuru never actually said anything that could be useful in implicating anybody.

I think Ikuru should have just exercised his rights without resulting to name calling and tagging since he at the end of the day could not actually shed light on any of his lame and ludicrous reasons.

Let's also remember that it's a common thing in Nigeria for people to call themselves bastards, thieves, rogues etc in public without being able to provide any fact or proof to support such claims.

  13. Some might call it light others can say is darkness, all l can say is politics, when you don't get what you wanted you jump is very simple and applied to both parties. All this guys claiming seeing the light when they jump are all liars all they wanted is either one post or the other and ones they can't get it they jump. Period!!!

  14. Thank GOD Ikuru realized that GEJ's presidency is divine providence. A word is enough for the wise.
Sadly Amaechi does not know that. he wants to use his hand and tear down his own household. He will not succeed. Hero's are not made overnight. They mature over time. GEJ all the way.

Those who want to follow APC based on the falsehood diahed out all thia while are free until until they met their waterloo. As for me and my house, we shall follow GEJ. APC have been spreading falsehood and indirectly and directly supporting the activities of terrorists. Blaming and rubbishing every GEJ's actions both positive and negative. Good will always win evil eventually and this sums up Ikuru's reasons for leaving the devilish Party call APC, A party filled with rogues and crooks claiming they want to fight corruption is laughable. Shine your eyes Nigeria!! the Hour is near
