Three Igbo candidates have won elections into the House of Representatives in Lagos State. The successful candidates who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are Chief Oghene Egboh, Mrs. Rita Orji and Mr. Tony Nwoolu.
Egboh won the House of Representatives seat for Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area while Orji won in Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA and Nwoolu won the Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency.
Egboh polled a total of 29,761 votes to defeat the incumbent Ganiyu Olukolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 20,616 votes.
All the Igbo winners won in areas heavily populated by the Igbo in Lagos State. They defeated candidates of the APC, which is the ruling party in the state.
The PDP candidate in Ojo Local Government, Tajudeen Obasa also won the House of Reps seat for the area while Tunji Soyinka, also of PDP won the House of Reps seat for Surulere Federal Constituency 2.
In Mushin Federal Constituency 2, Dauda Kako Aare of the Accord Party also defeated the APC candidate, Yemi Alli, to clinch a ticket to the House of Representatives.
The victory of the Igbo candidates in Lagos State, according to some observers, is not a surprise as Igbo candidates have in the past won national elections in Lagos State. They cited the era of the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons, NCNC, led by the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, when Igbo residing in Lagos won elections into the regional and central legislatures.
Meanwhile, Chief Egboh on Tuesday expressed his desire to attract infrastructure development to the state.
Egboh made the promise in an interview on Tuesday.
“In this particular constituency the biggest problem we have is the decay of our infrastructure. There is no water, sewage system is bad, and there are no playing grounds,” he claimed.
Egboh promised to lobby ministers in charge of the ministries responsible for such facilities for an improved infrastructure in his constituency.
“My success as member of House of Representatives-elect was very significant being a non-indigene to have won the seat for the first time in Amuwo Odofin, Federal Constituency.
“Again this is the first time the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency,” he said.
Egboh, however, linked his success to hard work, focus and the experience of being a politician having served two terms as councillor, both in Amuwo Odofin and Ojo Local Government Areas.
“The senior legislators will see the quality in me and my constituency will feel the impact,” he declared.
Egboh gave glory to God and thanked the people of Amuwo Odofin whom, he said, had confidence and trust in him.
The House of Reps-elect who hails from Delta said his house-to-house campaign had indeed paid him, saying he had been working for the election in the past two years. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

We Yoruba's are civilised people. I know they in their side with their level of civilisation will never even allow other tribe especially we south west to even contest in their place.
ReplyDeleteYou and who are the 'we'? As if u will vote for them if you were there. Am sure the igbos there gave them that vote or bc pdp rigged there
DeleteThe sooner you start accepting the fact that nigeria has gone beyond ethnic sentiment, the better for u all here. U guys should have gone over to these respective fed. Constituencies and stop them from winning. The truth still remains that people voted for them and they won. That's how it should be in any part of Nigeria. If you can go settle in the SE and mingle with them to the extent that they can trust u to lead them, why will they not give you the chance. Brothers, this is time we uplift ourselves by uniting Nigeria. We will get there and God bless Nigeria...
DeleteWe need to watch it,cos next time they will aim @ d governor's seat and thus declare lagos MASSOB HQ...
ReplyDeleteYorubas are very accommodating. It can never be allowed in their region. But we must be careful.
ReplyDelete6:57pm. Your talk is senseless. Am sure if not the people you called MOSSOB,Nigeria will not be one coz there only people that can live & develop the place there living, & accpt all that comes out. Note: please come I have land to give you to develop. Sure the HQ will be were it ought to be if it's God's will....
ReplyDeleteIt is not a case of Mossob or no Mossob. The fact remains no other ethnic group can hold any political position in Igbo land. No way. They won't allow it n u know that in ur heart. It's ok they won now but Lagosians should remember for future reference, "if u give them an inch they take a mile" Always remember that.
Delete@Alan...."if u give them an inch they take a mile" Always remember that... And so "the East should be for Easterners and the West for Westerners"....should also be remembered always & that is how you actually formed massob.
DeleteI will advice yorubas to be very careful with Yamiri. They are very dangerous people. They can never ever allowed other tribe in their state to be a counselor. They are now looking for something else. Please yoruba be vigilant. Igbo never like you.
ReplyDeleteStupid and daft comment! How many yoruba people live in Aba? There are millions of Igbo people in Lagos, so definitely at a point they will want to represent themselves! If there was a strong Yoruba presence in Onitsha who have acclimatised with the Igbos there, then they would campaign for Office. People forget that a Yoruba man is a Mayor in the UK and Barack Obama is a Kenyan Immigrant!
DeleteThis why l will not vote Jimi Agbaje, you can't sell your birth right over a plate of portage. If u absorb this pple nos all in the name of getting vote and sell ur heritance, it will be too bad for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by selling your birthright? Is Tinubu your father or Agbaje's father? Or are you or Agbaje or Tinubu a blood relation to Buhari? Think before you post. Or do you think the Yorubas are in power? You will soon learn!

ReplyDeleteJimi Agbaje remains the best candidate for Lagos Guber without any sentiments, the truth must be told.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 657am. Your posting was not reponsible. It was very tribalistic. I am a Yoruba man and I am disgusted by the tribalism. Democracy is a game of numbers, otherwise a man from the black race would not have been the President of America.
ReplyDeleteGod bless Nigeria. We must see ourselves as one Nigeria and also we should pray that God's own will should be done over Lagos as he did at federal
ReplyDeleteOn wat grounds does jimi remains d best candidate. When he cannot successful run a business well. He wants to run a state. He shld pay his staff salaries 1st and stop promising.
ReplyDeleteAPC is already out of Lagos come less 2 weeks.God help us.
ReplyDeleteVERY SOON, WE IGBOS WILL DOMINATE LAGOS ..BCOS LAGOS BELONG TO EVRYBODY ,LAGOS IS NOT BELONG TO YORUBA ALONE LIKE KRAWA STATE,.....2019 IGBO WILL CONTEST FOR LAGOS STATE AND WE WILL WIN BY THE GRACE OF LORD
ReplyDeletetrue talk,,,,,,,lagos state is a general state.....state of all....even igbos contribut alot to growth and development of lagos state than yorubas in lagos....even in term of population ...population of igbos living in lagos state is more than yorubas living in lagos.,,,,,,,
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of stupid statement is this. On what basis have you come to the conclusion that there are more igbos than yorubas in lagos?and in what way do you contribute more to the development of lagos? Is it your spare part shops all over the place or what?
DeletePls note for the records, that Lagos does not belong to the Yoruba's just as Abuja does not belong to the hausas. Most --of the so called lagosians from the west migrated -from oth-er states- -in the --southwest to come and settle in lagos just as every other tribe did. ----Yet- -----becos they all-h-ave y-oruba -names they claim- -to be- better---- t----han- -----o-ther------s-
Delete------
YORUBA is an hospitable tribe, a tribe that accommodates other TRIBES. all this happenin in lagos state, has it ever happened in IGBO LAND or HAUSA LAND? definitely, igbo will not allow any yoruba man to contest for any political post in their land, but they always wanted to contest in YORUBA land. WHY!? because the YORUBAs are friendly, we take other tribes as ONE NIGERIA, does IGBO people have that kind good heart towards other TRIBES?
ReplyDeleteThese young minds, grow up! Struggle and achieve greatness by hard work and love to all humanity. The era of cheap appeals to trival sentiments is fast tailing out in the modern world. Very soon only the very brainy will be heard and those waiting for ready-made cakes will even beg bread from 'tenants.' Peter
ReplyDeleteChai Nigeria just look at level of hate on igbos.....this country hate igbos badly..without igbos not lagos without igbos no kano nor kaduna yet they hate,us,but,God loves us..
ReplyDeleteIgbo non indigenes? Is Tinubu an indigene of Lagos?
ReplyDeleteIgbos non indigenes. Is Tinubu an indigene of Lagos?
ReplyDeleteIgbos should learn how to be detribalised Nigerians from the yorubas. Yorubas only care about development, no matter who brings it. The Nigerian parliament should abolish the use of state of origin, federal character commission and so on. The will diffuse tension in the land, for example the Plateau killings and so on.
ReplyDeleteI hope Igbo's have perfected the art of swimming cos Oba Rilwan will soon throw you all in the Lagoon as soon as Ambode loses the elections on Saturday. Idumota, Alaba, Ojo, TradeFair, Ladipo etc You all will be in the Lagoon after saturday bcos Ambode has lost the elctions already!!! LoL
ReplyDeleteIgbos are unique !
ReplyDeleteNigeria is one
ReplyDeleteThe truth of the matter is that......Its only Igbos that preach and practice ONE-NIGERIA.....The Igbos that won in Lagos did not win because Yorubas are civilized or accommodating.....they won because they have the population in those areas where they won....Politics is a game of numbers.....the reason why other tribes cannot contest in the Igbo states are simple.....how many Yorubas and other tribes are residing in Igbo states.....how many who are residing in Igbo states actually make investments there.....this makes them not to have any big stake in Igbo states...So it should just be known that Igbos in Lagos can win much more positions in the future if they venture more because they have got the POPULATION and RESOURCES...what is remaining is the ambition and the taking the positive steps....thank you all
ReplyDeleteLet get over sentiment. It is good for democracy this is happening. But don't take a slight opportunity for granted. Lagos is state of hospitality...accommodate everybody but don't let it get into ur head. Residence is different from citizen and citizen by birth is quite different from citizen by heritage. But no matter what lovers of Lagos state...so let do our part to make it better than what is it now and lawlessness state as u can see elsewhere. Be aware! RKO o ni baje oo. God bless Nigeria.
ReplyDeletePEOPLE WHO REASON BY TRIBALISM AND ETHNIC DIVIDE ALWAYS SUFFER LIMITATION. DEPRESSION. FRUSTRATION. WAKE UP EDUCATED ILLITERATES. LET EDUCATION TAKE AWAY SOME RELIGION AND TRIBAL NONSENSE OF YOUR HEADS. WHY ARE YOU EDUCATED IN THE FIRST PLACE?
ReplyDeleteIf niger delta oil belongs to the whole nigeria and lagos IGR belongs to the whole naija then anyone can be Governor anywhere in naija! I am looking forward to idiaraba and araba rago having an hausa counsellors! Gone are the days of counsellors living in lekki epe far from their constituency! Whoever thinks this is an ibo issue is decieving himself! The issue is effective representation! If the indigene wants to represent an area dominated by non-indigenes he should realise that he has to carry their interests and not the interest of just his tribe of origin
ReplyDeleteThe issue is service not tribe!
Well is not only winning elections that they presence of Igbo should be recognized. Igbo have contributed immensely to the development of Lagos and everyone knows that and there have not been any noise about that. Alaba and trade fair Complex were swamp even Amuwo odofin to Okota as well but Igbos played significant role in development of these areas. If they contribute to these communities why should their interested not to be represented? If people from Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo and Edo win elect in Lagos, tongues will not wag. If a good number of any ethnic group can go to the East and contribute to the development there, they equally should stand and win elections. It is true there are several Igbos that have houses in Lagos that does not even have a single block in the East.
ReplyDeleteSome people would alway support evil even at the glares of atrocities just because of the interest they want to protect.
ReplyDeletePDP had a faulty foundation and some of these politicians who parades themselves are thieves. If Gej had spent half of this campaign money in power sector, Nigeria would have been a better place and there wouldn't been any need to share money before he wins the election.
These politicians PDP have taken Nigeria 16years backward. Nigeri need a Jerry lawrence to be better.
GOD WE KNOW U HAVE JUST BEGAN A NEW THING IN NIGERIA AND NIGERIA WILL BE BETTER ONE DAY FOR OUR CHILDREN.
