Boko Haram not planning to attack Lagos - Police

There were reports on Friday stating that security agents in Lagos were alerted about a plan by Boko Haram militants to attack the Apapa seaport in Lagos, but the Lagos State Police Command said it got no report of such threat.

The unconfirmed reports quoted the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Western Ports Command, Mrs. Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, as saying that an intelligence report three months ago revealed the threat.

When the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Kenneth Nwosu, was contacted on whether such intel was shared among all security agencies in the state, he said the command had no such information.

Nwosu said, “We did not get any sort of intelligence of a threat like that. That kind of issue is in the domain of the police command at the port. But I can assure you that all police formation in Lagos are always working to be a step ahead of any eventuality.

“Usually, the duty of the police is to protect lives and property and uphold the law always. The strategy in place is to have adequate manpower ready in every part of the state so that nothing untoward happens.”
