Why I will not visit Chibok – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has explained that it is not necessary for him to visit Chibok in Borno, as it would not lead to the release of the over 250 school girls abducted from a school there in April.

The President, who gave the explanation on Saturday at a press conference in Paris, France, said that his main interest was to locate and rescue the girls.

The President further explained that he was not averse to visiting bomb explosion sites, as he had done so in the past.

“These girls are not held in Chibok. Sometime, people want the President to go to Chibok.

“If the President goes to Chibok today, it does not solve any problem.

“The problem facing the President and indeed the Nigerian Government is how to get these girls from wherever they are,” he declared.

Mr. Jonathan said the service chiefs had since visited the area, adding that the emphasis now was on the rescue of the girls abducted over a month ago.

The President assured that the Nigerian military were being trained to develop the necessary capacity to adequately deal with the terror threat.

He said that there were challenges in containing the insurgents because terrorism was a relatively new phenomenon in Nigeria.

Mr. Jonathan also asserted that the allegation of misappropriation of funds against the military was exaggerated.

The president has been criticised for not visiting Chibok to meet the families of the kidnapped girls as well as members of the community. He has also been criticised for his government’s handling of the kidnap. Mr. Jonathan’s first public statement on the kidnap occurred three weeks after the incident.

Nigeria is working with its international partners including the U.S. and the U.K. to secure the release of the girls from the Boko Haram insurgents.

  1. This man lacks every quality of a leader! I hope he can hear himself speak. You probably think you were elected just to sit down in the Asorock. What excuse do you have not visiting any part of this country? What a shame! When your wife was sick and admitted abroad, why do you have to leave your work to go and visit her knowing quite well that "your visit won't make her well" just as your visit to Chibok won't get back the girls? It's simply because these girls are not in anyway related to you. Let me remind you that as the president, you are the father of the whole nation. You really need to wake up and stop being afraid because your fear is really killing the morale of the military and that's the reason the US can say Nigerian soldiers are afraid of fighting the terrorists. We don't want a weakling as a president. If you can't do what is necessary, step down and let more capable hands take over. From over 170million people, I believe we've got more fearless and capable hands than you. It is not compulsory that you end your tenure. If resigning will bring peace back to this country, why not do that?! I will advise you to sack all your so-called advisers because it's obvious they've got nothing upstairs! I'm sure if bokoharam says you should resign for them to release the girls, you will say NO because you think the presidency is your birthright and you've got to die there.

    1. The president is asking some genuine questions about his not visiting Chibok; he is asking if he visits Chibok today, will it bring back those girls?

“Yes I will visit Chibok, no doubt about that but what we are anxious about now is to locate the girls. These girls are not held in Chibok. If the President goes to Chibok today, does that solve any problem? “ He asked.

The current problem is to find these girls and not visiting a village that would not bring out these girls.

    1. This man is not showing leadership. Why don't he read about prave leaders and what made them so. If insecurity in the country will not change his presidency I wonder what will. He should ask former president Bush how he changed his objectives after 9 11
