The Peoples Democratic Party has asked the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to stop insulting President Goodluck Jonathan.
The ruling party said the opposition's constant criticism of actions taken by the President on the insecurity in the country was aimed at denigrating the Presidency.
The PDP further said in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in Abuja on Monday, that it had carefully taken stock of alleged "insults, vituperations, lies and unending schemes by the APC" against the office and person of Jonathan, saying all were part of "a well laid-out plot to cause confusion and ultimately truncate the nation's democracy."
Metuh said, "In continuously hauling insults against a democratically elected President upon whose shoulders lies the sacred mandate freely given by the Nigerian people, the APC is directly insulting Nigerians and showing their disdain for the institution of democracy.
"The National Chairman and the National Working Committee of the PDP find it very disturbing that the APC leadership, made up of elderly persons who ordinary should have a sense of self respect and decorum, could condescend so low and resort to the use of uncouth language against the office and person of the President out of sheer frustration, bitterness and envy.
"They have continued to show themselves as extremely unpatriotic elements, blinded by narrow pursuit of power for very ignoble reasons for which they have contracted foreigners to undermine the government of their own nation using negative paid write-ups and advertorials to dish out lies and vituperations against the Federal Government."
He said that having realised that the APC would never be elected into the Presidency, its members had been using every means to denigrate and desecrate the Presidency, bring it to public ridicule, poison the minds of the people and incite them against the government and set the ground for confusion and mayhem ahead of the 2015 elections.
Metuh added that in constantly criticising every strategy adopted by the President in the war against terrorism, the APC had not only confirmed its preference for insurgency but also exposed its underlining design to distract the government and frustrate the over-all anti-terrorism efforts.
He called on Nigerians to note that the APC remained a party which he said had nothing to offer than to attack well-meaning individuals and institutions of governments and sowing seeds of discord among peace-loving citizens.
The PDP added, "Theirs is clearly a question of the evil drummer who drums under the cover of the bush only to jump unto the footpath and mount enquiry regarding where the drumbeats came from.
"Let it be known to the APC that power belongs only to God and that those who denigrate and disrespect authority at any level will never be entrusted with it. In constantly insulting the President, the APC has shown that they will remain in opposition as no Nigerian will entrust ill-mannered and disrespectful persons with the leadership of our great country.
"The APC must realise that they have started irritating Nigerians. As a ruling party, we charge them to show maturity and shed their penchant for lies, deceit and unnecessary attacks on well meaning individual, government officials and institutions."
Metuh added that the ruling party on its part would remain committed to the national interest and the welfare of Nigerians and that it would continue to stand solidly behind Jonathan.

I'm not a politician, neither like any party, but this act of insulting the president by other parties those not show that the party insulting is even responsible. If they can insult or be insulting the number one, that is they even lack honour for our nation they claim to have the positive interest. I beleive any insulting party will never like to be insulted if he's to be in power, so what you will not like someone to do to you, please don't do it unto others. Or what you do unto others will definately come to you.
ReplyDeleteIt unfortunate that at every time our politicians seem believe that opposition means those who do not want you to succeed. It is wrong. The statement clearly showed that Metu do not understand what opposition democracy is all about.

ReplyDeletePersonally, I think that Jonathan has a right to seek redress in court for defamation if he considers his rights infringed. APC or anyone for that matter is NOT however permitted to insult the 'PRESIDENT' of the federal republic of Nigeria. The PRESIDENT is an institution that represents us and insulting the PRESIDENT is disrespect to Nigerians. we also need to distinguish and understand the difference between insults and criticism. our politicians often deliberately misrepresent criticism for insults for selfish political maneuvers. Our public office holders must understand that they are public figures, responsible to the Nigerian public and answerable to them. therefore criticisms and probes are not out of place (deziani - take note). Mr. Jonathan should also endeavor to conduct himself as a president ALL the time to avoid being insulted.
ReplyDeleteRight on point my anonymous bro. The problem here is not the president but those sycophant, favour seekers that surrounded him in guise as adverser, info. and media minister, mis interpreting critism for insult.
DeleteAnd by this, an "illitrate" nigerians will takes it upon theirselves, trying to outsmart each others(tribes) in english language(as if na my language) and abusive words.
No wahala the end justifies the means. Am absolutely sure that after 2015 the winners and losers will let us be for a while before unleashing terror on innocent civilians again.
