Oba of Lagos anoints 2015 Gubernatorial candidate for Lagos

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has expressed support for a former Accountant General of the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Abode, as governor in 2015.

Akiolu said this at the launch of a biography of Ambode titled, 'The Art of Selfless Service' in Lagos on Thursday.

He said while addressing guests at the event that there was no more room for hide and seek as it was time to let Lagosians know who their next governor would be.

He said other governorship aspirants had the right to run but he would pray for Ambode to lead the state.

The Oba, who spoke intermittently in English and Yoruba, said, "We say we are here to launch a book but we know why we are here. We the elders had met and discussed and the people have said that Ambode will be the governor.

"Let no one misquote me, the others (aspirants) have a right to run. Ambode, may you lead all of them. Ambode is not Ilaje, he is from Epe and a true Lagosian."

While speaking with journalists on the side lines of the event, Akiolu described Ambode as a selfless public servant, who had distinguished himself.

  1. I respectfully agree with the Oba of Lagos on this subject matter.

The people of Lagos state will only know who their next governor is after elections at polls. With all due respect for the stakeholders and the chieftain of the this noble party, I wish to point out the big error here...

And I will like to quote Oba Akiolu, he said, "We say we are here to launch a book but we know why we are here. We the elders had met and discussed and the people have said that Ambode will be the governor.

If the elders have had a discussion or conducted their own elections without INEC and the people going to the polls to choose their leader. Then we are no longer running a true democracy.

The power to choose the next Governor belongs to the people, while the power of the monach as a public servant is objectivity and to create climate of peace and an atmoshpere of free and fair elections come 2015.

As it were, the Oba of Lagos is One vote, the Chairman of the party is one vote. All he needs to do is to exert his influence and allow the event to take its course, instead of imposing the will of selected few on the people of Lagos State.

I honestly want to believe that the people in question here, are very wise now and would not just vote for just anybody imposed on them, but will go beyond personality and endose sound character ethic for their new Governor.
