No political party can use us – ASUU

Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU] has said that it is not been used and cannot be used by any political party to achieve its goal.

The union also said that it does not work on the basis of tribe or religion in pursuing its aims and objectives.

ASUU Calabar zone made this clarification in a statement issued in Umuahia, yesterday. by its coordinator, Dr. Charlie Ononuju in reaction to a certain publication which accused the union of being used by the APC.

Ononuju described the publication as “entirely false and misleading [as] the union is not and cannot be influenced by any political party.
The union embarked this national strike to secure the furniture education of the Nigerian child”.

According to him, “It has nothing to do with politics, religion or where one comes from as being canvassed. The union is democratic and all issues and decisions are democratically resolved and taken.

“The zone urges the group [that made the publication] to jettison the propaganda and call on all well-meaning Nigerians to the blackmail.

“The members and leaders of the union shall continue to think and act in the interest of the people of Nigeria, irrespective of ethnic, religious and regional affiliation”.
