A professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Ilorin, Yasir
Quadri, at the weekend said Boko Haram, a radical Islamist insurgent
group, is not an agent of Islam, but the handiwork of the destructive
Nigerian politicians.
The don consequently acknowledged that if Nigeria would know peace, the
Nigerian politicians should resolve to achieve their ambition, not
through manipulation of religion, but by becoming nation builders.
He disclosed this at his inaugural lecture titled, All In The Name Of
God, delivered at the university, noting that Boko Haram members “are
not justifiably fighting in the name of Allah”.
"Nigerians need mutual understanding to move the country forward.
Everybody is entitled to freedom guaranteed under section 38 of the 1999
Constitution just as everybody is free to propagate his/her religion
either overtly or covertly on others".
Quadri noted that members of the Boko Haram group who have been extreme
about religious intolerance are doing what offends both the Qur’an and
constitution of the country. The provision of the constitution of the
country on religion state is in line with that of the Qur'an”.
He said that the demands and mode of operation of Boko Haram are not
Islamic, adding that the stand of the Nigerian 1999 Constitution “agrees
totally to the view of the Qur'an on multi-religious community."
“Qur'an 10:99-100 makes it clear that it is the wish of Allah not to
make everybody a Muslim. He has given everybody the choice to choose
which religion he/she wants to adopt. Qur'an 2:256 was emphatic on the
issue of freedom of religion and it reads: There is no compulsion in
religion.
BOKO HARAM VS ISLAM...

BOKO HARAM: If you are not with us you are against us.

BOKO HARAM: All non-Muslims must leave the North.
ISLAM: You are only permitted to protect yourselves when you are attacked first. And you should retaliate justly but if u leave everything to Allah it is better for you.
BOKO HARAM: We attack all who stand in our way
ISLAM: A Muslim is one whom his community is safe from his tongue and hands.
BOKO HARAM: We do not care your religion. Muslim or Christian we will crush any who stands in our way.
ISLAM: Innocent Killing is a great sin. Allah has ordered us not to do it! No human being has the right to take life.
BOKO HARAM: Allah will understand. He will not punish us, but give us virgins in heaven
ISLAM: When there is a war, Women and children must not be touched. Talk less of when there is no war.
BOKO HARAM: We kill and kidnap men, women and children.
ISLAM: When there is a war, all non-Muslims that run into their places of worship or their homes will not be harmed. Talk less of when there is no war.
BOKO HARAM: We bomb non-Muslims in their places of worship. We also bomb Muslims in their places of worship and homes if we feel they are a threat to us.
So who really are these people with warped ideologies and intents?
I may not know what they are really out to achieve but I do know for sure they do not represent Islam. Rather, they are acting contrary to it in most cases.

Mr. Quadri, I like how you quoted only two verses, and those two verses happen to be the only peaceful ones in the quran. Sadly, these verses have been abrogated, or as the quran calls it, 'substituted with a better one'. The chapter on violence against non muslims is chapter 9 and this was the last/second last chapter that Mo recited, therefore it 'substitues' the verses of peace that came before it. Quran/Surah 2:106 "None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar: Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things?". If you deny this principle, then your Quran is a very contradictory book because Surah 9:29 says "Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled."

2. Surah 9:123 says "O ye who believe! Fight those of the disbelievers who are near to you, and let them find harshness in you, and know that Allah is with those who keep their duty (unto Him)." Again, BH is right according to the Quran "IF YOU ARE NOT WITH US YOU ARE AGAINST US"
3. This is the funniest one of all... really? Mo lived peacefully with Christians and Jews, really? After he said "I have been ordered to fight against people until they testify that there is no god but allah" (recorded in both Sahih Muslim 33 and Bukhari). Don't even get me started on how many people this man killed who did not agree with his religious views, especially after he left for Medina.
4. All the verses and hadith i've quoted above all show that Boko haram is also right on this one about Islam. The quran says fight those who do not believe in allah, not fight those who fight you. Except of course if you are saying that your god did not know what he was talking about but he meant something else and said a different thing.
5. Again, this type of teaching was preached when Mo was in Mecca. He was preaching 'to you be your religion...' and all other 'peaceful' topics like that. But when he left for Medina, he essentially became a mad man and started preaching death to anyone who was non-muslim especially Jews and Christians (the people of the scripture). Surah 48:29 says "Mohammed is the prophet of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against unbelievers and merciful among themselves."
I would continue, but honestly, this comment is already too long. There is a verse in the quran or a saying in the hadith that disagrees with everything you've said in this article. The one about women and children not being harmed is hillarious!! Mo allowed his followers to sleep with their female captives. This is rape! There is no female captive in the world who just saw a man kill her husband and family and carry her off to a foreign land who wants to sleep with her captor.

I grew up in Lagos where we eat and dine together, no matter ur religion. This is also d case in my village and in all southern villages. Prof Quadri may be an indigene of Ilorin and if that is so, their muslims are also peaceful and all Ilorin indigenes were not and are still not as ignorant as d core north. There is the English version. Pick and Read. You can also read the Hadiths by 2 most widely accepted by Muslims all over the world: by Al-Bhukari and the one by Tabari. Idris Allah yayi maka Albarka. You see, the problem is that these christians that are trying to attack Islam don't even know what they are doing. The more they try to extinguish the light of Islam, the more Islam gains ground. Have they ever asked themselves why Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, especially in the so-called west. They are afraid because the promise of Allah MUST be fulfilled. Islam will definitely dominate the whole world. So they are threatened!!! We don't fight, but Allah will surely protect His religion against your aggression. About the abuse of Islam by some rude christians, it is not a surprise because Allah has told us in the Glorious Qur'an, Chapter 3 verse 186: "You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allah MUCH ABUSE. But if you are patient and fear Allah-indeed that is of the matters (worthy) of resolve." So Naijaguy and co your reactions and abuse to Islam has been foretold. But then, you are doomed, because nobody can win a war against Allah and His Prophet. We as Muslims will never abuse Jesus Christ (May peace be upon him) because we respect and adore him as a Prophet of Allah. May Allah guide every seeker of the truth to the right path, Ameen. Anyway, Saul of Tarsus (Apostle Paul) hated Christians more than anyone else, but became the foremost propagator of the Gospel when the truth dawned on him. So, I'm not surprised @ ur level of stupidity. I doubt if u know that some books in the Bible were written abt 4,000 BC and Muhammad was born like 600 AD. So, why r u bothered abt the translation errors? A one page story could be translated in a thousand ways, in asmuch as its morale is not distorted. You may even argue that Jibril revealed the Quaran with Chapters and verses to Muhammad. Were they not inserted by Islamic scholars? The Quaran is one way to prove the authencity of the Bible cos of the Biblical stories and injunctions repeated in it. It is u that don't know what you are talking about. What does Islam has to offer? Everyone goes to hell first and Muhammad interceed for them to get to paradise. How can u tell me to wash my mouth, face and leg before approaching God (a spirit)? ReplyDeleteI have a question which i believe will clarify this issue. Why is it that people turn violent immedictely they convert from any other religion to Islam? This i am yet to see on anyone who embrases Christ. Why?
ReplyDeleteI tire for them o! Afterall conversion is not by force. But the Bible has said it all " if the foundation be destroyed what can the righteous do" You see, Islam has a violent foundation, and what flows from the head flows to the garment. Their messenger killed and displaced several people just to prove he was the MESSENGER of God. Imagine a messenger struggling and striving to deliver the message of his Boss (Allah). If Muhammad were a Jew, will there be anything like Islam? Can he fight and defeat the Jews like he did to the people of Mecca? I'm yet to see a devoted Muslim that is not aggressive abt Islam.
DeleteIt is sad, notice what all the people saying that I am misquoting the Quran are doing. They are either just getting angry and telling me I will burn at allah's judgement or they are trying to attack christianity. The question here is is Boko Haram right about ISLAM? Defend your religion with the quran if it is. Telling me that boko haram is wrong is not proof that they are wrong. If I am wrong, prove it to me, and I will gladly change my position on the issue. But as it is, none of you have provided a defense for your religion, you have just resorted to attacking another religion. Attacking christianity does not equal a defence for islam. Tsk tsk tsk. Just so sad.
ReplyDeleteOh, and to give a verse to support my claim on the whole sleeping with captives thing, read Surah 23:5-6 (those who your right hand posesses = slaves and captives).
But in contrast, the bible says in Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

ReplyDeleteI dnt knw why people find so much pleasure insulting. I believe it is better to keep mute than say something u have little or no knowledge about. You make up stories and say different humiliating words about God which we muslims call Allah, believing you are insulting one demi god. But u have no idea that you are insulting the same God that u claim to worship through Jesus christ who we call Isa (may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) in Islam. Pls u dnt have to insult. Every one want peace. Have u ever seen an Arabic bible before? Allah simply means God same as how dieu means God in French as well as other languages. The major difference between muslims and Christians is that Christians worship God tru Jesus Christ while we muslims worship God directly. We do not worship Muhammad like some christians believe. We put Muhammed as well as other prophets in high esteem from Adam to Isa ( Jesus). we knw that they are wonderful prophets that came to lead us to the right part. And point of correction Islam is not a violent religion. God said he who kills a soul is like killing an entire nation. U don't just sit and believe in what media says. Make research and you will see the beauty of Islam. Read the Qur'an properly and u will understand what it entails by the power of that one God that you and I have never seen. U dnt have to use hate and humiliating words all in the name of hate for one religion. Muhammed (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) even said do not be too extreme in your religion. Be moderate cos those that go too extreme becomes fanatics and once one is a fanatic, the person tends to give wrong meanings to whatever is preached or read. Pls let us avoid Hate words. we all are nt perfect. God even said it in d Quran dat there are pple dat transgress limits. and Allah detest transgressors. Allah said do not oppress and do not be oppress and do not be oppressed for Allah would never be happy with oppressors. Those that call themselves islamic terrorist are oppressors. For those of u that claim that Muhammed copied d old testament and scriptures, they are all lies bcos everything he said were not his words but God revealed all to him. He wasn't there during the time of Abraham, Moses, Jesus e.t.c. but all the knowledge he had abt dem were revealed to him. Muhammed was not learnered but by the power of God he was filled with knowledge.
