Notorious kidnapper, Bishop Nelly and his gang members gunned down in Rivers state




Men of The Nigerian Police yesterday gunned down an alleged notorious kidnap kingpin, Bishop Nelly and six other members of his gang in Ogoni area of Rivers state.


The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ben Ugwuegbulam who disclosed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday said the Police encountered the suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle at their hide out in the early hours of yesterday.

He said the Police trailed them to the hide out after they kidnapped a Turkish national and staff of Rivigo construction company, Mr Biram Karakus.

He said the hoodlums were behind several kidnap incidents in the state and killing of Policemen.
Continuing, the Police spokesman gave the name of the leader of the notorious kidnap group as Bishop Nelly, saying he was among the seven that died after the fierce gun battle.

He said two ladies who were members of the gang also sustained gunshot injuries during the gun battle.

DSP Ugwuegbulam said the Police recovered N98,900 being part of N20million allegedly paid to the gang as ransom to secure the release of the Turkish hostage.

He said six AK 47 riffles, 444 rounds of live ammunition, 17 magazines and charms were among items recovered from the hoodlums.

“Today at about 02:50 hours, following investigation into the kidnapping of one Biram Karakus, a Turkish national and staff of Rivigo construction company, Port Harcourt, a combined team of operatives of the Rivers state Police command and Brigade AKU, stormed the militant camp of a notorious gang, also responsible for kidnapping, armed robbery, killing of policemen, civilians in recent past in Kaani, Ogoni.

“On arrival at the camp, hoodlums opened fire on the team to enable them escape but police operatives returned fire and in the ensuing gun battle, six of the hoodlums were fatally wounded.
The gang leader later identified as Bishop Nelly and ten others which include two ladies sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital. Seven of the wounded hoodlums including the gang leader died on the way to hospital. “, he said.

Six of their operating AK 47 riffles, 444 rounds of live ammunition, 17 magazines and assorted charms were recovered. Two bags used to deliver the ransom money and sum of N98, 900 also part of the ransom of N20 million paid to them were recovered. “

  3. Out of 20mil,98k recovered ? Hmmmm,what of their bank details ? Incase they have some of this illgotten cash stacked there ? Funny I've never heard of any retrievals from banks,or do the police do the follow up and share such cash ?? Many questions !

Its unfortunate that uptil now the Nigerian Police is still learning on how to cook stories..what I read here has a lot of broken facts..hope they never turned there gun muscles on innocent nigerians as kidnappers..the same report tells me that the gang leader and ten others, total is 11, 7died the only two women involved are in the hospital now with bullet wounds, where are the remaining two..what happened to the turkish man? How was the 20million paid that 98k was the only physical cash recovered..Nigerian police big wahala..!
