Tragedy averted as LAGBUS buses collide in Lagos

Tragedy was averted on Friday when two LAGBUS mass transit buses collided at Alagomeji area of Yaba in Lagos State.

The accident reportedly occurred during rush hour on Friday, Eagle Online reports.

Eyewitnesses said the two drivers of the red buses were on full speed and neither was willing to slow down for the other.

When one of the bus drivers attempted to veer into the lane reserved for LAGBUS buses, the other driver refused to slow down, leading to the accident.

The front and rear of the two vehicles were badly damaged while the drivers and some passengers were said to have sustained minor bruises.

But no life was lost.

The accident, however, drew condemnation from passengers as they alighted from the crushed buses, raining curses and abuses on the drivers, whom they accused of reckless driving.

The passengers called on the Lagos State Government to check the excesses of the drivers.

This accident is coming barely one week after a BRT bus ran over a LAWMA cleaner and other bystanders

  1. Am I surprised? Of course not!

Some of the LAGBUS drivers need their heads examined, period! This is exactly what they do to some motorists on the highway. At least I have escaped them maybe Thrice! Lanes have been created for them, yet, some of them deliberately drive outside these lanes and at top speed, too.

    Reckless. That's just it.

What does it take to give way to the other? 2, 3 seconds? And the outcome of not doing so? Lives could have been lost, and thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of Naira, will be spent fixing the 2 buses. The drivers should be made to bear the costs of their recklessness, by the way, and this should not be an avenue for an idiot to make some quick money of government, by awarding the repair contract to his/herself!

And The passengers should not rain curses alone, but should take legal action against Lagos State for endangering their lives. The drivers are working under Lagos State, or if that is not the case, and their is a special arrangement for these drivers, then the 3rd party contractor should be sued!

Enough of these ridiculous things we put up with.

If lives were lost, it would still be an irritating 'sorry' and an unamed amount of compensation that Fashola would have quickly arranged for the victims' families.

Governor Fashola, sack these drivers and others like them! 'Eko o ni ba je' is your slogan, but not with people like these drivers.

    Amen.

    1. Thanks so much for the beautiful comment. We most times forget that Fashola does not drive any of these buses and that these drivers like most Nigerians promised Ï„̅☺ be of their best behaviour when they were applying for the job. Rather than blame Fashola for putting food on their tables through this job,a rule Should be made Ï„̅☺ make them responsible for whatever preventablE damages done on any of the government properties. May we help ourselves abeg. Fashola no dey enter LAGBUS remember?

  2. Nigerianeye, please always review your use of language in reporting news. Two drivers got reckless; they and their passengers narrowly escaped a tragedy. Nothing was averted. To avert means to prevent, so who took action to prevent the tragedy here?
Anyway, I hope the new Lagos laws also apply to the BRT drivers and that punitive actions are taken for their recklessness
