Kano Cancels Traditional Sallah Activities over insecurity

The Kano Emirate Council announced on Wednesday that it would not observe the Traditional Durbah activities during this year’s Eid-el-Fitr coming up this weekend.

NigerianEye learnt that for the first time in 700 years , all the Sallah celebrations which have been practiced since the coming of Islam into the ancient city have been cancelled.

The Emir recently to the United Kingdom for medical attention and returned to the country amidst speculation regarding his health condition.

The Emirate council through its senior councillor, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, announced the decision while briefing newsmen in Kano and said, “The emir will only attend the Eid Prayer on Sallah day”.

Wambai also said “all other celebrations during Sallah from homage, visit to the State Governor and the traditional Hawan Nassarawa where he interface with his subjects have been cancelled in view of the health condition of the emir”.

However a source close to the Emirate council told our correspondent that the suspension of all traditional Hawan Sallah activities was done mainly because of the prevailing security situation in the state.

Over 50 years since his emergence as the Emir, Alhaji Bayero has been celebrating with his subjects the traditional Hawan Sallah, Hawan Daushe, Hawan Nassarawa and Hawan Dorayi during the Eid- ul- Fitr and Eid Adha festivities.

In a statement, the Wamban Kano said, ‘’the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero has directed me to inform all District Heads and traditional title holders that the traditional Sallah activities have been cancelled’’.

He urged the people to pray for the improved health of the royal father and also prayed for continuous peace in the state and the country.

It is important to note that the cancellation of the Traditional Sallah activities in Kano does not rest on health grounds only, as issues of insecurity in Kano has now become a major challenge as it is in many parts of the country today,

  2. I have absolutely no sympathy for the Northern elites. Now he runs away to the west for treatment, Haram indeed. Is that not due to the collective neglect of the elites? Has he stood up for his subjects against decades of corruption? Now they cancel festivals in fear of the monsters that the created a very conducive environment for. Confederation is a must or the nation will truly collapse by 2015!

Ur comment shows how unreasonable and gullible you are. The handwriting is on the wall yet u cant read it. With all this attacks on mosques and muslims too you still think the north are supporting BK? the bombing and killings is happening in the north (their home), innocent lives are lost everyday and you foolishly think northerners will support that? then what else can you believe?. Sorry to disappoint you, the north can never be devided but united. am sure you actually meant 'muslims' not 'north' because your biased last sentence just confirmed that.

So tell me, if muslims or north are the BK, why will they be killing muslims and attacking mosque too.

Ur ppl are the most heartless if u dont know, inspite of the money pumped to ur ppl even by the past northern president upto the whooping billion dollars by your incompetent brother, they still engage in kidnapping and killing of unarmed civillians, expertriates. vandallizing pipelines and militancy and many more.. so check ursef and mind ur speech.
