PDP blasts Fashola over Makoko demolition

Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated the manner and timing of the demolition of Makoko community by the Lagos State government, an action which it said also led to the death of the community’s traditional ruler.

In a press statement signed by the PDP state Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, the PDP opines that the eviction and demolition exercise was more of destruction than correction, adding: “It lacked human feelings and indeed violates human rights.

The Lagos State government’s decision to evict the Makoko residents from their abode and occupation is very callous, especially at this time of heavy rainfalls.

The residents are now helpless with no alternative accommodation provided by the state government, thus confirming the insensitivity of the government in its policies.”

The PDP called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to ensure that the evicted residents are properly accommodated and that the resultant death of the ruler is investigated and the culprit brought to book.

  1. It is true that an alternative should be provided. However we need to ask certain questions: were they given notice, did they legally acquire the land?
Meanwhile PDP should please be quiet, they have not done anything useful anywhere and let the Governor work.

  3. One of Yoruba adages translated literally as "It befits other person to negotiate the price of laundry but not a regular bet wetter". PDP out of all parties can now talk. It shows the extent of shamelessness of this group of people. The only Party in the world (correct me if I am wrong) that has the first lady doubled as a Permanent Secretary. Back to the issue, I know Gov. Fashola has points but he temper justice with mercies. To the displaced people of Makoko, God will comfort all of you and provide a better alternative as He did for those forcefully evicted from Maroko of those days.
