Outrage as NYSC posts graduates to troubled states in the North

Despite the promises made by NYSC, not to post graduates to the troubled states in Nigeria, Some Corps members have posted to Yobe, Kaduna,  Kano, Bornu and Bauchi states for the BATCH B NYSC Programme.

The prospective corps members have however asked the National Youth Service Corps to redeploy them from these trouble states.

The corps members, who expressed sadness as they received their call-up letters for the Batch B NYSC service year, said they were confused as they did not know what to do due to the spate of bombings and other forms of insecurity in these states.

Some of the corps members and their families, who expressed their worries on various social network sites including Facebook and Twitter, said they were extremely sad and disappointed when they received their call-up letters, deploying them to trouble states where there is currently curfew, threats of reprisals and censeless bombings.

Some of the comments on the social network sites read, “We need to arise and stop the government from sentencing us and our loved ones to death. Is our government/NYSC this heartless or simply inhumane? We seek our immediate redeployment, we want to live in places where we can work with peace of mind.’’

Sources gathered that authorities of the NYSC had also been under pressure from parents and prospective corps members posted to northern states, who had been seeking alternative posting.

Although NYSC was already collaborating with the affected states on how to ensure security for the corps members posted to their states, but many parents are seeking for last minute means of redeploying and ensuring that their children/wards do not honour the posting.

NigerianEye spoke with a parent (names withheld) and he stated his dis-approval to let his daughter go to the North, his daughter who was posted to Bauchi state, also raised concerns about the security situation in the area.

In his words, 'Lai Lai i will not train my daughter from primary school till this stage, only for her to risk her life to Boko Haram bombings, why should you post people to areas that are currently under curfews, and bombings?'

Speaking through the Borno State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Inuwa Bwala, in a telephone interviewin Abuja on Sunday,  Governor Alhaji Kashim Shettima, made a case for corps members to be posted to the state.

He argued that the security situation in the state was being exaggerated by detractors to further isolate the state from the rest of the country.

He said, “While it is true that we have security challenges, it is a fact that these challenges are not exclusive to Borno State.

“We don’t have on record any attack on visitors neither do we have any record of attacks on the NYSC camp or corps members posted to and currently serving in Borno State.”

  2. The best thing is τ̅☺ post the northern corpers to their state of origine since the BH d̶̲̥̅̊ø̲̣̣n̶̲̥̅̊'†̥ care fơ̴̴̴̴̴̴͡я̩̥̊ human lives, let them kill their own brothers

  3. Mr. Shettima, or what do you call your name? Will or corps members live in your state house? You are not sincere to the citizens of Nigeria. If you want corpers, please, call for the graduates from your state, so that you can cover them with the security arrangement you have in place now. A bad and useless leader.

  4. Is it not enough that the average Nigerian student suffers through school and their parents rake their last kobo to make sure that their kids finish university education? Why is the Government through the NYSC scheme bent on further sentencing these graduates to Death? Let any graduate state from Kogi Up north serve in their state. And leave the south west and east to enjoy NYSC the way it is suppose to be. A situation where BH kills and chases police men away from police station release inmates, who is going to protect a corps member in such state from the hand of BH? These Governors and their PRO should be checked. As for these states that are hostile/volatile, let their own indigenes be posted there. Is it not khaki they want to see? So if they decide to kill their sons and daughters no love lost.

  5. I think the Federal govt is just being totally insensitive to the fears of the generality of Nigerians. I am also sure that thes NYSC workers responsible for posting copers will not post their own children to these troble states.
So, let them apply the golden rule which states that "Do unto others what you want them to do unto you". simple. Let the northerners who are desirouns of shedding blood be posted to their owns states and let them eat their own flesh and drink thei own blood and leave the southerners out of this madness.

  6. AS FAR AS AM CONCERNED THE NYSC should ne cancelled. if it is still necessary it should be included in their academic years and they should do it in their states of origin because it is their parents that trained them so they should serve their fatherland in their state not people who did not sow in their lives to be reaping and killing them anyhow. the issue of providing security does not arise here at all.

  7. The masses are cannon fodder and to the elites, our lives are cheap. The elites will, as per their usual corruption, bribe to get their own kids to not serve in any of the danger spots. We the masses are to blame for being brainwashed cowarards. We have the goverment that we deserve and it refects us. When we are fed up we will rise but that will surely not happen anytime soon as control mechanisms like the churches will keep us in check like in colonial times.

  8. This service of a thing i dont think its still helping us in this country b'cos at d end of d year our children still end up seeking 4 job, so d NYSC officials should think about this n if it is a must they should stop sending our children to deadly states.'E dekun ati maa ran awon omo wa losi enu iku'

  9. My Shettima is a BH member since he is hidding the fact that just last year many corp members were murdered immediately after the presidential election. They are blood thirsty up there in the North. Let them serve themselves. Why do they even need Corpers? Are they not the one rejecting western education?

  10. As long as Nigeria is still one and the NYSC scheme is still in place let the authority in charge not to post any corps members in those lethal zones. If there is anyone in the government advertising that those innocent corps members to be posted there let their sons and daughters replace them.

  11. Did the child of this Bornu state commisioner of information school in Nigeria not to talk of serving in a troubled. Its time FG look into this posting/NYSC matter for all our sake.

  12. Why not rotate d northern graduates within thir states rather dn sending d southerners there.the northerners are sent over here where dy serve peacefully without apprehension while we live deer in fear. Since govt ha refused to scrab ds rubbish,I think fr now, data d best thing to do. We can't risk bn bombed? What happens in d end is that a statement wil be made condemning such acts and prob dy wil talk about compensating, wil all dy bring the lives of loved ones bak. Pls corp members and families involved, pls protest this posting. This is nonsense, serious madness. Psheeeww. They think dy are smart, nonsense.

  13. God help us in this country, it is unthinkable that any right minded person will even consider sending young Nigerians to their death all in the name of serving their father land.
We have a problem in our hand in the name of BH, until we are able to tackle this problem, it makes sense that the NYSC scheme be more innovative/flexible in their posting agenda.
To the prospective corp members, it is better you are late than sorry. Once dead, nothing else can be achieved. Use your head!
