UNILAG/MAU Crisis deepens, School Shut for 2 weeks

Due to the recent developments surrounding the protests by University of Lagos (UNILAG) students over the change of the name of their school to Moshood Abiola University, UNILAG FM the official University radio station annnounced that school autorities have suspended all academic activities in the school for 2 Weeks.

The authorities of the institution also asked students to vacate the hostels.

Notwithstanding the closure, the students on Wednesday vowed not to leave the campus.

The Federal Government has, however, said the decision to rename the university established by an Act of parliament in April 1962 was done in the best interest of the country.

But the students said they would not stop the protest until Jonathan reverse the decision

  3. What president's power? Power to unconstitutionally change a school's name after 50 years......while lacking power to provide security of lives and property for the common man? Please what is wrong with Jonathan....cant he ever do anything right?

  4. Who puts the president there for them not to challenge his power when he's doing things wrongly. What power, yes i said what power? to unconstitutionally change a federal institution's name without the legal procedure(s). Pls he should better vacate that sit if his senses are no longer effective and efficient.

  5. In other words, are we saying Lagos as a name for a state in Nigeria can not be changed? When FCT was shifted from Lagos to Abuja what happened? So what is wrong in renaming UNILAG after all, the said university benefited a lot from late MKO Abiola including their ungrateful senate.

Any student feels unsatisfied with GEJ decision on this issue, should as a matter of urgency relocate immediately to Uni Togo or Uni Iraq I don't care.

They are not even happy to be renamed a prestigious name like MKO Abiola. What if GEJ decides to name it OBJ university what would have happened?

you bunch of indiscipline elements, you better go and rest and have an unchallenged respect for your president or we sack your VC and rusticate some of you. My name is Yemi.

  6. Yemi , I fully agree with your position.these people should not be making an issue because of a name, when there are many other issues begging to be addressed. If the students do not like the name, they can change their institution to the one whose name they like. It is nobody's personal property.I have come to realize that Nigerians are people of very short memories.
