Why Eagles are falling – Ikpe Ekong

Former Nigeria international, Ikpe Ekong has attributed the slide in Nigeria football to the poor mental attitude of the players and lack of tactical depth on the path of successive national team coaches.
He said “some of our players are in some of the best clubs in the world, performing very well for the clubs. Why do they struggle when they wear national team jersey?” he asked.
Continuing, the Sweden based star said, “our players are proud and undisciplined. Their mental attitude must change and that is where the manager comes in.
“You can’t be a superstar if you are not disciplined. Today out there in Europe, people talk about Ghana and other African countries without the mention of Nigeria. It has gone that bad,” he observed.

Ekong who plays for Swedish Premier League side. Djargarden however believes, Coach Stephen Keshi has a bright chance to succeed, but insisted that “the right things” must be done to ensure success. “When the head is okay, the rest of the body cannot be bad. The NFF must sit up and the right decisions must be taken to move our football forward.
“Right now Nigeria football has gone down and we need to accelerate, if we don’t then we will be stuck.”
The Mali 2002 Nations Cup star called on the Super Eagles coach to learn from the mistakes of his predecessors and excel where they failed.
