Dana Steel sacks 75 Nigerian workers in Katsina

The management of Dana Steel Ltd. in Katsina has allegedly sacked 75 Nigerian workers. It was gathered that the workers were served with letters of their disengagement last Friday when some of them were busy on their jobs.

It was gathered that 51 of the affected staffers were on permanent appointment, while the remaining 24 were casual workers.

The management, it was learnt, also directed those of them living in the staff quarters to vacate them immediately.

This development caused some tension in the company as some of the victims protested against the action of the company.

The situation led to the intervention of security agents and a human rights group in Katsina.
The Nigerian workers alleged that their jobs were being taken over by Indians who were even better paid.
Abdulsalam Kabir, manager, Human Resources of Dana Steel Ltd., said that he was not competent to speak with the press, but directed the correspondent to one Mr Frank at the headquarters of the company in Lagos.

When Mr Frank was contacted, he simply answered, “I don’t know what you are talking about” and switched off the phone.
