Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi.
Five persons, one of them a receptionist working in the Oyo State secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were on Monday injured, as hoodlums suspected to be supporters of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) pounced on the PDP office.
Secretary of the PDP in the state, Mr. Bashiru Akanbi, who spoke with newsmen on the attack which he described as unwarranted and unprovoked, named the Vice Chairman of the state’s Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr. Abass Oloko, and a former member of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Inakoju, as the leaders of the political gang that allegedly attacked the party’s office.
However, the spokesman of the ACN in the state, Mr. Mathew Oyedokun, who lamented the attack on the PDP office, stated that the party was not in the knowledge of the attack, saying that it was unwarranted and uncalled for.
Confirming the incident, the state’s Police Commissioner, Mr. Moses Onireti, told THISDAY on telephone that his command was on the look out for the leaders of the attack, hinting that the command would not brook any breach of the peace and violent political outburst in the state.
In the meantime, the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has adjourned to enable the PDP obtain documents from the United States of America to proof the alleged dual citizenship status of Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
The PDP scribe cried out that the incessant harassments of PDP members in the state cut across the 33 local governments in the state, mentioning the attack on his party members last week, when President Goodluck Jonathan visited the state, stating that the party’s chairman in Oluyole local government council, Mr. Emmanuel Akinlade, was still lying critically ill at a private hospital in the state.
According to him, the attackers who were on their way from the tribunal came in about 22 buses and were armed with cutlasses and guns and other dangerous weapons stormed the party office, and in the process, leaving the injured in a pool of their own blood.
“Today, at about 10.30 a.m. when the tribunal adjourned its hearing, these thugs led by Alhaji Abass Oloko, Muhammad Inakoju, Saheed Bolaji, Agbada Kaosa, Kola Iragbiji, Suke Akobo, armed with rifles, matchetes and other dangerous weapons along with their brooms logo invaded our state office with about 20 buses, damaging our property.
He added: “They forcibly gained entrance and broke into reception room, attacking the receptionist, Mrs. Laide Lawal ad four others who they left in a pool of their own blood.”
Akanbi wondered the reason for the attack at a time the state was still in shock of the flood disaster which ravaged homes and washed away human lives and called on security operatives to stop being partisan and arrest the situation before it degenerates.
The ACN spokesman in his reaction said, “we did not send anybody. We are surprised that some people could choose to attack the PDP office when we are still in a mourning mood over the flood disaster which claimed several lives. There is no cause for it and advised the militant ACN supporters to sheathe their sword.
The Police chief stated that he had invited the executives committee of both the PDP and the ACN to a meeting and told them to warn their supporters and call them to order.
