Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has assured the people of the state that all the communities will have functional electricity supply before the end of 2015.
The assurance came on the heels of the presentation of award to the governor by the Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria, LECAN, on his efforts in the provision, execution and delivery of electricity supply to the people of the state.
Speaking while receiving the award in Calabar, Governor Imoke who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Fidelis Ugbo said that already many rural communities in the state have been electrified with quality work that would stand the taste of time.
He said, “I can tell you that today more of our rural communities are electrified and if you go there to see the quality of done; it is the type of work that stands the taste of time. We are perfectly satisfied that whatever electricity project we embark on in Cross River State will stand the taste of time because the quality is high.
“We have not rested on our oars, we believe that if there are communities in Cross River state where we cannot provide formal electricity we will get them solar power electricity for those communities and we are committed to doing that. Our expectation is that may be in four years time, if he is re-elected, by the time he will be leaving the second tenure as governor in this state, there will be no community in Cross River state without electricity”, he said.
According to him, the administration has concentrated wholly on rural development because “we believe that we have come to a stage in Nigeria where we should integrate the economy of the rural people with that of the urban centers. If we should address the problem of rural urban migration we must provide the same standard of facilities we have in the urban centers”, he said.
He also pointed out that the quality roads constructed in the state at the rural communities have the same standard like any other road in the urban cities, adding, “the quality is the same, standard is the same the width is the same”.
Presenting the award to the governor through the SSG, the National President of LECAN, Otunba Dele Akintola said the association found the governor worthy because of his giant stride in the provision of power supply to the people of the state.
