Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade (rtd), has solicited the assistance of the Ministry of Defence in the training of Police officers in the area of counter-terrorism and other acts of containing violence to enable them deal with exploits of the Boko Haram sect.
Speaking when he paid a visit to the Minister of Defence, Dr. Bello Haliru, in his office in Abuja yesterday, Captain Olubolade decried ongoing security challenges in the country, especially the activities of the Boko Haram group, and called for collaboration of the Armed Forces and other security agencies to tackle the menace.
According to him, the current security challenges offered by the Boko Haram sect have done great damage to the image of the country.
He said a collaboration between the Armed Forces and Police would achieve maximum result in efforts to contain the Boko Haram sect.
The Minister of Defence, Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed, in his response, stated that the armed forces would continue to work with other security agencies through brotherly relationships to sustain peace within the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
He commended the joint operation between the armed forces and police, popularly code-named “Operation MESA”, currently on-going in some parts of the country, noting that it fostered a good working relationship among the forces.
Reiterating that the armed forces would continue to assist the police in all areas necessary to contain the security challenges in the country, Dr Mohammed stressed that whatever training needs the Police desired would be provided by the armed forces.
Present at the visit were the Minister of State, Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Police Affairs, Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji.
