PDP leaders summoned to Obudu

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday summoned the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party to Obudu Cattle Ranch, where he is currently on a working leave.

Our correspondent gathered that the Acting National Chairman of the party, Dr. Haliru Mohammed, left Abuja on Tuesday afternoon for the meeting.

Apart from Mohammed, the National Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, is also expected to join the meeting. He is said to be currently outside the country.

It was learnt that the meeting is expected to discuss the input of the party to the composition of the Federal Executive Council, which is expected to come on board immediately after the President’s inauguration on May 29.

Apart from this, a reliable source within the leadership of the party said its chairman would also discuss media reports that members of the opposition from the Action Congress of Nigeria, the All Progressives Grand Alliance and the Labour party would be part of the new federal cabinet.

While the ACN is believed to have played a key role in the massive votes received by President Jonathan in the South-West region during the presidential election, the APGA is seen as the motivating factor for the huge support given to the Jonathan/Sambo ticket in some states in the South-East.

The Labour Party on the other hand, did not field any presidential candidate even when some members of the party showed interest in the race.

Its National Chairman, Chief Dan Nwayanwu, and National Secretary, Alhaji A. A. Salam, were at the presidential villa to congratulate President Jonathan after he was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
