EFCC arraigns ex-MD, 3 directors for alleged N10.6bn theft
While Nwosu arraignment was successful before Justice Bisola Okunnu, the arraignment of his counterpart, Dr. Erastus Akingbola, former MD of the Intercontinental Bank Plc and other directors of Intercontinental Bank, however, failed, because they were brought late to the court by the EFCC. Akingbola is expected to be arraigned before Justice Habeeb Abiru.
The FinBank former MD was arraigned alongside his directors: Dayo Famoroti, Danjuma Ocholi and Agnes Ebubedike. All of them pleaded not guilty to the offences.
Immediately after their arraignment, their counsel, Mr. Anthony Ndigbe, SAN, prayed the court to grant the former bank MD bail. However, the court rejected the application, asking them to bring a formal bail application before the court, and ordered the four defendants to be remanded in EFCC custody, till the next adjourned date. She, therefore, adjourned the matter till May 17, 2011.
In spite of the fact that Akingbola and the three others expected to be arraigned before Justice Abiru were brought late to the court by the anti graft agency, Vanguard gathered he has filed a motion seeking to stop the EFCC from arraigning him in court.
Following the restraining order he got from a Federal High Court, Akingbola, argued that the EFCC cannot arraign him before the Lagos High Court, having been arraigned on a similar charge at the Federal High Court, which is a court of concurrent jurisdiction.
Justice Abiru adjourned the argument of the motion till May 16, when it is also expected that Akingbola and the two others will be arraigned. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
