Assailants attack Bauchi village

Unidentified armed people attacked Jaruma village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Monday, killing Irmiya Maigida, 55, a pastor and indigene of Bogoro Local Government Area and his neighbour, Joshua.
Narrating the sad incidence, Mr Irimiya's wife, Kezia, 48, who was also attacked but survived, said she was sleeping alongside her husband when she heard gunshots at about 2am on that fateful day.

Speaking on her hospital bed at Female Ward 4 of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, Mrs Irimiya said the gunmen first entered Joshua's house and shot him dead before coming to their house.
"I was at home sleeping when I heard the gun shots. I came out of my room and felt a bullet in my hand," she said.
She had gunshot injuries on her left hand and deep machetes cuts on her back and legs. She said four of the attackers seized her and dragged her to the bush.
She said that they inflicted several machete cuts on her and covered her with leaves before leaving, thinking she was dead. The housewife recalled that they were rubbing some strange substances on her cuts as they stabbed her with knifes and she passed out.
She said she regained consciousness to behold her husband screaming in pains.
The son of the deceased, Ishaya Irmiya said he received a call from his sister that their father had been shot.
He said he immediately called his sister in Bauchi to go to Toro.
"They got to Jaruma and met the pastor who was still alive, but in great pains," he said. "My father and my mother were rushed to the hospital in Bauchi, but my father passed-on on the way because the police delayed them in Toro asking for statement and before they could settle everything and reach the hospital, my father had died on the way. He would have survived if the police had not caused that delay." The pastor was buried at the Christian Cemetery in Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis yesterday.
