Senator Florence Ita-Giwa has denied allegations by Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that she tried to bribe electoral officers assigned to Lagos State in favour of her party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Senator Ita-Giwa in a statement signed by her aide, said the allegation was an attempt to blackmail her and bring her enviable political reputation to ridicule.
She dismissed insinuations that she held any meeting whatsoever at any time in the past with any INEC officials at the Tafawa Balewa Square, or any where else, where N200 million was said to have been distributed to them.
Senator Ita-Giwa said she was in Calabar campaigning for candidates of the PDP in the State House of Assembly election coming up tomorrow.
According to Senator Ita-Giwa, she practices her politics on two levels, national and state, with the state being Cross River State, her home state.
The statement said: “While it is true that the senator resides for the most part in Lagos, the senator asserts that she does not practice her local politics in Lagos.
“It is on record that Senator Ita-Giwa was very active in rallying votes for President Jonathan in Lagos during the presidential elections.
“With the impressive victory of her party in the presidential elections, the Cross River State PDP campaigns now take priority in the scheme of things for her.
“The senator will like to remind every one that all her personal electoral victories have been as a candidate of opposition parties and that she has always relied on her popularity and integrity to win elections.
“She wishes to assure her numerous admirers and political associates that she will never indulge in under hand schemes such as the one alleged by the ACN. The senator is in touch with her solicitors and intends to bring legal action against the authors of this blatant false hood.”
