Report reaching NE says that the Lagos State Commandant of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mr. Obafaiye Shem, the man who postulated the “my oga at the top” mantra has been suspended from office by the Ministry of Interior.

As at the time of filing this report, no reason was given for Shem’s suspension as no official of the Ministry agreed to speak to our reporter. However, we gathered that it may not be unconnected with the embarrassing interview the commandant granted Channels Television early this week.

Mr. Obafaiye ordeal started when he appeared on Channels Television morning programme ‘Sunrise’ and when asked the NSCDC website he said:

“Hmmm, the website is, excuse me, my Oga at the top knows the website”, he again, cleared his throat and said: “My Oga at the top is working on the website and I don’t have them”.

When the presenters insisted that he give a functioning website address of the para-military, he dropped the bombshell: “ww.nscdc, that’s all”.

Immediately, the interview went viral and has become so popular to the extent that t-shirts with “my oga at the top” insignia has been produced and selling like hot cake across the country. Some DJ’s and musicians have done what they called remix of the interview.

Video of remix below

So what do you think? Do you support the suspension of Mr Shem? If yes, why? If no, why not?

  1. It is an embarrasement of the highest order for someone of his calibre not to know his organisation web address. It will serve as a warning to other top civil servants they must be dilligent at their duty post. Above all to all brave young nigerians that rejected this embarrasement I'll say weldone. If we speak with one mouth we can move 'mountains'.

  2. Is that how they suspend all who make mistake in nigeria.

    1. Thank you! If that is how everyone who makes a mistake is supposed to be suspended, then there would have been no one holding any office today. Please, spear this man. For him to have been posted to head Lagos command, he must be good at his job. Not knowing the website shouldn't be enough reason to suspend him please.

  3. I don't support his suspension, it may not be part of his work schedules, what happen to d minister that could not sing national anthem

  4. How did he get to such a position when he can't tell the public the official website of his organisation? It's a big shame! This a pointer to the fact that a lot many are there who can't spell their names.

  5. is a bad idea 2 suspend im, mistake as no master, aside that my oga at top is a common slang among d military and para military in dis nation. if he face suspension as regard d error, wat would happen 2 her excellency d wyf of d president of dis great nation

  6. We are talking about one of our security top men here , they should not just suspend him but sack him , if he could not answer a simple question how then could he be intelligent enough to catch up with Boko ...These are men that uses connection to be were they are , this is a big lesson to other out there .......

    2. 8:56, you are a complete muron! As if you have never made a mistake even in your own area of specialization. I seriously wished it was your father, brother or uncle that was ridiculed this way. Then you will know how it hurts! Do you know this issue has affected the whole family? IDIOT!!!

  10. The overall commandant should be suspended for sending him for the interview , he knows his stAff can't express himself well in tge public . He should have send someone more comfortable to represent the organization to represent the commission . When we were in second school the best among the students were always not to represent the school in an essay or quiz competition. Becos if the student fail the shame will return to the school as a whole .

  11. If he is good at his job, he should be pardoned. His job may not need the use of computer and as a Boss,he may be relying on computer info feeds from his subordinates. Abeg, if he is good at his job, he should be spared! There are a lot of common slogans each and everyone one of us might not know, when asked. No one is perfect!

  12. I think it is a harsh decision. Afterall how many of us know our official website? That aspect of our job is usually left to the IT officer. Look I will be surprised if the DG knew it. His offence is making a mess of himself by faking or guessing an answer when he should have simply said "I don't know" The humiliation he has suffered is enough. By the way do u think Jonathan knows the official website of Nigeria? Food for thought.

  13. It is embarassing anyways for someone of his calibre in an organization not to be able to give answer to such a question.Really, personally i felt embarrassed when i watched the video and didnt even see that as a question that should take even a freasher of any organization off balance. But the truth remain, after the commandant has being suspended, what happens to the likes of "my fellow widower".Is it not high time we suspended her from office too and pronounce the office empty since Mr president cannot consider getting another wife for himself just to fill up the gap in the office.Where is eguity in this country where "eye service" is the order of the day.

  15. To all the people who thought and still thinks its unfair to suspend him, yall either delusional or a bunch of misled foolish citizens. A country where u have crime at its peak, thousands upon thousands of jobless graduates who are more than qualified for positions but can't get them bcos we have such illiterates in power who can't even defend or represent his own organisation where he works.if u still think suspending him is unfair then u more useless as a citizen than I thought.

    1. Suspending him is fair enough. Nigerians a so educated. I watched the interview. The man is dumb. He could not answer any question correctly. We are talking about security here. Even the police is a mess. A friend was kidnapped in Lekki lately, the police had no clue, to get ordinary call log of the line the kidnappers were using was a huge task. They kept asking for transport money. Bunch of illiterates. He should even be sacked. www.nscdc.olodoogaatthetop.com.

  16. There are many intelligent people who cannot answer such prompt questions especially from journalist who want to nail u. Suspending him is not the best, though the mistake has caused us a lot in the Corps. I received more than 50 pictures and videos on this from friends BUT THE ONLY THING I TELL THEM IS 'TRY ME AND I WILL GIVE YOU FIRE!' I galant both intellectually and physically.

  20. His suspension is not justifiable, knowing well that he represented the NSCDC at large. I believe there ought to be a re-orientation for every one in Nigeria, we take too much of respect for bosses to the extent that most cannot act independently again, and if you agree with me, this has slowed down the rate of development in our various society. One other thing, Channels TV failed on their own part. I believe they (Channels TV) ought to supply anyone coming for their live programs an idea of what the question would be, so everything would run smoothly as it would have enabled whoever is coming full preparation. It's just a pity that mr. Shem Obafaiye holds an office of such immensity and still fail due to lack of knowledge about the latest in his field.

    1. Then ask what is the essence of the interview if you want Channels to give him a clue. I expected you to say the man should have asked for some time to give them the correct website.I believe you don't understand the gravity of his conduct.I understand fully that nobody knows it all - PH dude

  21. Mrs. Patience Jona doesn't hold any office unless that of Permanent Secretary Bayelsa State where her husband is the godfather. I think suspending Mr. Oga @ d top is d right thing 2 do. No one climb 2 such a high lada without high expectations. He should not just be suspended but be finally sack. He might have climb up through favouritism & sacking him would serve as a deterent 2 others. Infact let an external committee be set up 2 do a thorough certificate verification of all NSCDC staff by the Ministry in order to sanitize the system.

  22. Every thing starts one day, if you fail your exams you got no one to blame , lets start it from this man , this is a big disgrace to our nation ,sack this man. Common guys we are talking about one of the top security men in our country, tomorrow he might make another mistake that might lead to the killing of our President and we will still pardon him...... let other learn from hes mistake

  23. Why should he be suspended? afterall he did not not apply throuh internet/website during his recruitment, how many of them apply through net? political candidate.

  24. I strongly resent this move by the NSCDC. The commandant was only caught napping. It can happen to anybody. I strongly urge that He should be recalled back to duty. If at all the website should be known, the Channels guys should have pasted the website on their news bar for viewers to see. This is my take on this rather than making a mountain out of a mole hill.

  28. Mr Obafaiye Shem, should not be suspended,in an ideal society some people are paid to make mistakes!otherwise suspending him is making another greater mistake.

  29. Mr Obafaiye Shem's suspension is ok to serve as deterrent to those who do not take their job seriously. He is expected to at least know the current affairs of his establishment, one of which is the official website. At his level and in that interview,he needs to know that he is projecting the image of his establishment to the whole world. He should however be called back because of his dependants.
