Nigerians should continue to pray for our Country - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday urged the church to continue praying for peace in the country.

Jonathan made the appeal in Abuja while addressing the second session of the 8th Synod of The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) Diocese of Abuja, held at St. James Church, Asokoro.

He stressed that with intensive prayers the nation would soon overcome its present security challenges.

The President who was represented by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, commended the church for its continued goodwill to his administration and the nation.

“God will surely respond positively to the situation in the country”, he stated, stressing that Nigeria would come out stronger from its travails as an indivisible nation.

The President commended the Diocese for successfully hosting the second session of the Synod.

Addressing the Synod earlier, the Bishop of Abuja and Primate of The Church of Nigeria, The Most Rev Nicholas Okoh, traced the challenges facing other nations across the world and how most of the nations overcame them.

He assured that “with God by our side, Nigerians will overcome the challenges currently facing the nation.”

Speaking on the theme: “God Is Our Refuge and Strength”, Okoh said “there is presence of God in Nigeria and the presence of God means peace and prosperity”.

“God can order all hostilities to cease. Nigerian security is assured and Nigeria will not fall.”

He stated that God has been delivering Nigeria since its independence in 1960 and that the nation would overcome its present travails.

Okoh called on the Church to examine itself so as to identity where all the social vices plaguing the country were coming from.

“The church must rise up and pray for the nation and the President against all forms of humiliation.

“Nigerians should rely on God and trust in Him because He will not abandon us,” the Primate added.

  2. We should pray with our eyes closed while you and your bedfellows loot the whole country blind. Yeye man. You yourself do something and stop the useless talk. It is said that heaven helps does who help themselves. Goodluck Jonathan, rise up to your office and act like a man with some balls and liver. Obama is younger than you in age and rules the most powerful country in the world but responds to problems in all the corners of the world and the universe (moon, sun, mars, etc.). What do we get from you in Nigeria of less than 1m Sq2, admonision for prayers. Go find better work that you are best suited. Yeye man.
