BREAKING: Diri declared winner of Bayelsa governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Monday, announced the incumbent Governor, Senator Douye Diri winner of the state governorship election held on Saturday.

 

The State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Kuta Farouk, made the announcement at the Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Media Centre, INEC, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

 

The incumbent Governor Diri won the election in six of the eight local government areas of the state, while his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timipre Sylva, won only two LGAs.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Timipre Sylva has won in Brass Local Government Area after recording 18,431 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate Senator Douye Diri who scored 12,602.l, while the candidate of the Labour Party, Udengs Eradiri, scored 244 votes.

The results for Brass LGA were announced on Monday afternoon at the State Governorship Elections Collaboration Centre, located at Prof Mahmood Yakubu Media, Centre, INEC, Bayelsa State headquarters, Yenagoa.

#BayelsaDecides2023: APC, Accord Party agents clash at collation centre

 

The Bayelsa State agent of the Accord Party, Mr Victor Werinepere-Fisi, and his All Progressives Congress counterpart, Dr Dennis Otiotio, on Monday clashed at the state governorship election collation centre.

 

Werinepere-Fisi had hit Otiotio which led to violence and disruption of the event.

 

The incident happened after the results from Brass Local Government Area had been collated and the party agents were making their observations on the results presented by Collation Officer, Prof Rebecca Ape.

 

Meanwhile,  the Independent National Electoral Commission has adjourned the ongoing collation of Bayelsa governorship election results.

 

INEC adjourns collation of Bayelsa guber results till Monday

 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adjourned the collation of governorship election results in Bayelsa state till 12 p.m. on Monday.

 

Results from two LGAs – Brass and southern Ijaw – are yet to be collated.

 

Announcing the development to party agents, election observers and journalists at the collation centre on Sunday, Wilfred Ifogah, head of INEC voters’ registration in Bayelsa, said there are challenges in the collation of  results of some polling units and wards of the two LGAs.

 

Kuta Farouq, the state returning officer, had previously adjourned the exercise and said it would resume at 6 p.m.

 

APC’s Ododo wins Kogi guber election with 446, 237 votes

Usman Ododo, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been declared the winner of the Kogi state governorship election.

 

Ododo polled 446, 237 votes to defeat Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who came second with  259,052 votes. Dino Melaye, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scored 46,362 votes.

 

Johnson Urama, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer for Kogi, announced Ododo as the winner at 10:23 p.m. on Sunday.

 

Ododo, a former auditor general of local government in Kogi under Yahaya Bello, was anointed by the governor who is finishing his two-term of eight years.

Hope Uzodimma, re-elected governor of Imo, says his victory at the gubernatorial election on Saturday has vindicated him as the real winner of the 2019 poll.

 

Uzodimma spoke on Sunday at the government house chapel according to a statement released by Oguwike Nwachuku, the governor’s chief press secretary.

 

Uzodinma became the governor of Imo in January 2020 after a supreme court verdict that nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha, who was elected into the government house on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

Uzodinma’s legal victory led to Imo becoming the eighth state in the country to conduct off-season elections.

 

INEC orders fresh election in nine wards of Kogi LGA

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ordered a fresh election in nine wards in Ogori Magongo LGA of Kogi state.

 

According to a statement on Sunday by Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s national commissioner and member of information and voter education committee, the election would be held in the affected wards on November 18.

 

On Saturday, INEC suspended the election in the nine wards in Ogori Magongo LGA of Kogi state due to cases of electoral malpractice.

 

The commission had said irregularities such as completed result sheets before voting, and other serious issues were recorded in the wards.

#ImoDecides2023: Achonu demands cancellation of results, vows to seek redress in court

 

The candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the just concluded governorship election in Imo State, Athan Achonu, has called for the cancellation of the result of the poll.

 

The LP candidate accused security operatives of colluding with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to manipulate the outcome of the poll.

 

Achonu also vowed that he would seek redress through the courts.

 

The LP governorship candidate alleged that his party supporters and voters were intimidated and harassed during the election, adding that the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, does not reflect what truly transpired at the polling units.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has appreciated President Bola Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, following his reelection in Saturday’s off-cycle poll.

 

Uzodinma also extended his gratitude to the people of Imo State for supporting and voting him in Saturday’s election.

 

In a statement on his X handle on Sunday, Uzodinma urged other governorship candidates to join him in building and lifting the state.

 

The reelected governor commended security agencies for ensuring a peaceful election on Saturday.

APC to INEC: Ododo close to victory in Kogi, ensure people’s will prevail

 

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says Usman Ododo, candidate of the party in the governorship election in Kogi, is “coastin to spectacular victory”.

 

In a statement on Sunday, Felix Morka, APC national publicity secretary, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to protect the votes of the electorate in the state.

 

Morka said the “announced and uploaded results, so far, show Ododo maintaining a landslide lead in Kogi west and central, with a competitive showing in Kogi east”.

 

The APC spokesperson asked INEC to “protect the integrity of the legitimate votes of the Kogi electorate”.

Off-cycle poll: Our officials held hostage in Bayelsa, says INEC

 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says some of its officials have been held hostage in Brass LGA of Bayelsa state.

 

The electoral umpire, in a statement, said it is is closely monitoring the situation, adding that the development is detrimental to credible elections.

 

The commission also called on security agencies to immediately facilitate the release of the officials.

 

“The Commission is closely watching the situation in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State where our officials are held hostage,” the statement reads.

 

KogiDecides2023: APC candidate Ododo in early lead

 

The candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) Usman Ahmed Ododo is leading in the ongoing collation of the governorship election in Kogi State.

 

In the result announced so far by various collation officers at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Lokoja, Ododo has won seven Local Governments out of 21.

 

Ododo won in Adavi, Bassa, Ijumu, Kabba, Kogi LGA, Mopamuro and Yagba West Local Government Areas.

 

His close rival, Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP) so far has won four Local Governments, namely Ofu, Olamaboro, Idah, and Omala respectively.

The Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) governorship candidate in Saturday’s election in Kogi State, Dino Melaye, has rejected the election, calling for its cancellation.

 

On Sunday, at a press conference in Lokoja, the state capital, Melaye described the election as a sham.

 

“There was no election; accreditation was done manually, BVAS was not used, and prepared result sheets were available before the election.”

 

“INEC must cancel the election. We have evidence to back it up. INEC has manifested gross incompetence; it cannot be trusted, it is biased and compromised,” he said.

 

#BayelsaDecides2023: Gov Diri in early lead, wins 3 LGAs

 

Bayelsa State Governor and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Douye Diri, may be coasting to victory, as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, begins announcement of results of the governorship election conducted on Saturday.

 

Results of the three Local Government Areas announced include Ogbia, Kolokuma/Opokuma and Yenagoa LGA, Which shows that the PDP is leading with 38,475 votes.

 

Announcing the results, the State Returning Officer, Prof. Kuta Farouk, said in Ogbia LGA, with 119,571 registered voters and 36,955 accredited voters, PDP got 18,435, while APC – 16,319 and the LP – 57 votes.

 

In Kolokuma/Opokuma, PDP scored 18,465 votes to beat its closest rival APC who got 5,349 and LP 22 votes.

 

#BayelsaDecides2023: Protest rocks INEC office in Bayelsa over ‘manipulation of results’

Protesters laid siege to the Bayelsa office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday over the alleged manipulation of governorship election results from Nembe Bassambiri.

 

Among the protesters were Bayelsa-based civil society organisations, women groups, youth groups, state and national assembly members and other concerned citizens.

 

The protesters accused the umpire of attempts to distort the votes of Saturday’s election.

 

They blocked the busy Swali Road location of INEC at 9 am on Sunday to prevent the commission from accepting the results from Nembe Bassambiri which they said were concocted.

BayelsaDecides2023: APC rejects ‘attempt’ to move collation of Brass LGA results to Yenagoa

 

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected an alleged attempt to move the collation of the governorship election results in Brass LGA to Yenagoa, capital city of Bayelsa.

 

In a statement on Sunday, Felix Morka, national spokesperson of the APC, said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has come under pressure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa.

 

Morka said Brass is a stronghold of the APC and Timipre Sylva, its governorship candidate in the state.

 

“Brass, remarkably, is a major stronghold of our great party where the people have voted massively for our candidate, Timipre Sylva. The move is a calculated attempt to manipulate the result of the votes in favour of the PDP,” he said.

 

#KogiDecides2023: Deputy Governor Onoja loses own LGA Olamaboro to SDP

 

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward David Onoja, has lost his local government, Olamaboro, to the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP).

 

The All Progressive Congress (APC), where Onoja belongs, polled 5,572 votes in Olamaboro while the SDP scored 22,173 votes.

 

The result was signed by the collation officer of the Local Government, Ogbufa Chukwudi.

 

It was earlier reported that he lost his own polling unit to SDP.

BREAKING: Uzodinma defeats Anyanwu, Achonu to win Imo guber poll by landslide

Hope Uzodinma, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has won the Imo governorship election by a landslide.

 

Uzodinma secured the majority of votes cast after sweeping all 27 LGAs in the state.

 

The APC candidate polled 540,308 votes to beat Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 71,503 votes; and Athan Achonu of Labour Party (LP) who secured 64,081 votes.

 

Some of the LGs Uzodinma won are Ideato South, Onuimo, Okigwe, Orsu, Ihitte Uboma, Mbaitoli, Owerri municipal, Nkwerre and Ahiazu Mbaise.

 

#ImoDecides2023: Democracy under attack, we’ll resist it, says LP candidate

Athan Achonu, governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo state, says democracy is under attack.

 

Speaking with reporters during Saturday’s election, the LP candidate said the masses will resist the attack, and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to embark on a rerun of the poll.

 

He alleged that there were several infractions during the conduct of the election.

 

“In so many places, it is either the INEC staff refused to sign the result or refused to upload. It took the intervention of security operatives, who came here before they started uploading the results,” Achonu said.

 

#ImoDecides2023: Uzodimma leads, wins 20 LGs so far

 

The governor of Imo state and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Hope Uzodimma is leading in the 20 Local Government Areas so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

 

According to INEC, Uzodimma has scored a total of 429, 518 votes across the 20 LGAs so far announced by the electoral umpire.

 

The LGAs announced are Oru West, Owerri North, Obowo, Nwangele, Orsu, Owerri Municipal, Okigwe, Ideato South , Onuimo, Ngor Okpala, Oru East, Isu, Nkwere, Ahiazu Mbaise, Owerri West, Isiala Mbano, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Oguta, Aboh Mbaise and Njaba.

 

The results from the remaining seven LGAs are being awaited.
