A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Aminu Tambuwal, on Wednesday tackled President Bola Tinubu for claiming that he supported the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and 2019, the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu in 2011, and the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in 2007 in their push for the presidency.
Tambuwal said Tinubu should campaign on the basis of his
scorecard and not how he supported Northern leaders in their pursuit of the
presidency in the past.
Speaking during the ADC presidential campaign flag-off in
Sokoto State, Tambuwal insisted that Tinubu has failed to fulfill his campaign
promises to Nigerians.
He said: "We have seen what APC has done to Nigeria.
When Tinubu was campaigning, he said he would supply electricity, has he been
able to do that? Has he done anything about insecurity in Nigeria? How about
road and infrastructure? Nothing.
"What his campaign team in Northern Nigeria are telling
us is that Tinubu supported Atiku in 2007, he supported Nuhu Ribadu in 2011,
Tinubu supported Buhari in 2015 and 2019, they are not campaigning on his
scorecard."
The former governor of Sokoto State also insisted that
Nigeria has been retrogressing since Tinubu assumed office, stressing that
there is hunger, poverty, and killings across the country.
He added: "He is a sitting president. What has he done,
what has he achieved in the last three and a half years? Nigeria has been
retrogressive, there is a lot of hunger, poverty, and killings; so, it's not
about supporting our own leaders, its about delivering leadership for this
country and Tinubu and his team have failed woefully in providing leadership
for Nigeria."
The ADC chieftain further urged Nigerians to vote for Atiku
and ensure that they protect their votes after casting their ballot.
"Therefore, they have no business whatsoever remaining
in power, come January 2027, we shall come out en masse and vote for Atiku and
all candidates of the ADC. And we will remain at the polling units until votes
are counted and resulted declared," he added.
