The Osun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has removed the presidential tag from its campaign council, renaming the committee the Osun State All Progressives Congress Parliamentary Campaign Council.
The party also expanded the list, unveiled on Tuesday in
Osogbo, from 168 to 183 members, including all members of the state executive.
The development follows protests by some state executive
members who rejected the parallel presidential campaign council unveiled by the
party’s state leadership on Monday.
In a joint statement on Tuesday, the aggrieved members
demanded an urgent review of the council’s composition. They are Wole Adunola,
publicity secretary; Adesola Ayangbile, welfare officer; Rasheed Adeniji,
assistant organising secretary; and Abiola Ololade, ex-officio member.
They said the new structure contradicted an earlier
presidential directive naming Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, as the
council’s director-general in the state.
On Monday, the APC state chapter unveiled the 168-member
presidential/parliamentary campaign council to coordinate President Bola
Tinubu’s re-election bid and canvass votes for other party candidates in the
2027 general election.
In a statement, Tajudeen Lawal, Osun APC chairman, said the
council was constituted to further strengthen the party’s chances in the polls.
The party named Bola Oyebamiji, its governorship candidate
in the August 15 Osun election, as director-general, with Lawal as deputy
director-general. Benjamin Adereti, Oyebamiji’s running mate, and Kehinde
Olamolu were named first and second assistant directors-general, respectively.
The three APC senatorial candidates and nine house of
representatives candidates were also listed as members.
But the aggrieved members questioned why a different
structure had emerged in the state without adequate clarification or alignment
with the existing arrangement.
They said after the party’s national leadership appointed
Adeleke as coordinator of the Osun campaign council, he inaugurated a
broad-based team to coordinate the presidential campaign across the state.
The executives maintained that the state executive committee
is an integral part of the APC’s organisational structure and should not be
sidelined in constituting a state-wide campaign council.
