Kano NDC Candidate Gwarzo Accuses INEC of Working for Opponents

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of questionable dealings after his name and that of his running mate were omitted from the list of candidates for the 2027 governorship election.

Speaking in an interview on Arise News, Gwarzo said INEC published the list of governorship candidates on October 10, 2026, but excluded both his name and that of his running mate. He maintained that the party had fulfilled all the necessary requirements for participation and encountered no objections to his candidacy before the list was released.

Gwarzo said the NDC approached INEC for clarification but received no satisfactory explanation. The party later learnt that some individuals had approached the Kano State High Court to challenge his candidacy and seek an interim order preventing the publication of his name.

He noted that a court case was filed on October 17, with an order issued on October 27 directing INEC not to publish their names. Gwarzo questioned why the commission had already left them off the October 10 list, before the court proceedings and subsequent order.

“There appears to be an understanding behind the scenes between INEC and people with other interests,” Gwarzo said.

He described the situation as disturbing and called on the commission to be transparent in its dealings with political parties and candidates, especially on matters affecting their constitutional rights to contest elections. Gwarzo insisted the NDC had met all nomination conditions and criticised the commission for failing to communicate any concerns before excluding the names.
