Abia State All Progressives Congress governorship candidate Eric Opah has dismissed rumours that he is considering an alliance with any other candidate in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking to journalists in Umuahia on Saturday, Opah insisted he is running solely on the APC platform and is determined to capture the Government House with the programmes he has outlined.
“This briefing has become important to dispel the rumours ongoing regarding possible alliance with any other candidates,” he said. “I just want to show you that Eric Opah is in the race as a candidate of APC, the party at the centre to win. I am not in alliance with anyone as far as the APC membership contest is concerned.
“If there is anybody that other candidates should align with, I think it should be me. Not only that I am very qualified, but my agenda is very clear.”Opah promised that an APC government under him would offer a credible alternative focused on greater transparency, empathy for the people, and a tax system that does not overburden Abia residents and businesses.
“A government cannot survive without taxes quite alright, but we should not have a Draconian tax regime,” he stated. He said his administration would also review the mass sack of civil servants, ensure proper use of local government funds, and expand access to quality healthcare for every Abian. Other priorities include industrialisation, job creation, timely promotion of civil servants, freedom for market associations to choose their leaders, and a competitive transport system that keeps fares affordable. He added that the government would not flag off projects it is not ready to complete.
“The government of APC, come 2027, will be a transparent government, a government with empathy and not going to be a government that is just only on a social media. We are not going to invite people to come and authenticate what we are doing. Our government is not going to be a government of noise.
So in 2027, I am confident that APC will win in Abia State. I think we have what it takes to take Abia to the next level,” Opah declared. On support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, he said the President deserves backing from all political parties because of what he has done for the South-East.“Anyone that is not openly canvassing for Mr President’s re-election should go and re-examine his or her head,” he added.
Opah expressed confidence that the APC would win all five senatorial, federal and state assembly seats in the state. He pledged that after victory, the party would accommodate qualified people from other parties and assemble the best team to serve Abians, emphasising unity rather than division.
