Four Osun APC executives reject parallel presidential campaign council

Four executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun have rejected a parallel presidential campaign council unveiled by the state leadership of the party on Monday.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the aggrieved executive members, Wole Adunola, publicity secretary; Adesola Ayangbile, welfare officer; Rasheed Adeniji, assistant organising secretary; and Abiola Ololade, ex-officio member, demanded an urgent review of the council’s composition.

They said the development contradicted an earlier presidential directive naming Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, as the council’s director-general in the state.

The APC state chapter had on Monday unveiled a 168-member presidential/parliamentary campaign to coordinate President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and canvass votes for other party candidates contesting the 2027 general election.

In a statement, Tajudeen Lawal, Osun APC chairman, said the council was constituted to further strengthen the party’s chances in the polls.

The party named Bola Oyebamiji, its governorship candidate in the August 15 Osun election, as the council’s director-general, while Lawal was appointed deputy director-general.

Other appointees include Benjamin Adereti, Oyebamiji’s running mate, and Kehinde Olamolu, who were named first and second assistant directors-general, respectively.

The three APC senatorial candidates and nine house of representatives’ candidates were also listed as members of the council.

‘IT DOES NOT REFLECT DUE PROCESS’

However, the four executives faulted the omission of several members of the state working committee, saying their exclusion raised concerns about consultation, due process and respect for the party’s established leadership structure.

“Following a careful review, we express our strong dissatisfaction with the composition of the list, which, in our view, does not adequately reflect established party guidelines, due process and the principle of inclusiveness required in constituting such an important campaign structure. We, therefore, reject the list in its present form,” the statement reads.

“Furthermore, the composition of the list appears inconsistent with the earlier presidential directive reportedly naming Governor Ademola Adeleke as the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in Osun State.”

They said Adeleke promptly inaugurated a broad-based campaign team to coordinate the presidential campaign across the state after his appointment by the party’s national leadership,

They questioned why a different structure had emerged in the state without adequate clarification or alignment with the existing arrangement.

They argued that the composition of the newly released list would be more understandable if it was intended to serve as a parliamentary campaign council rather than the presidential campaign council.

They, however, insisted that the distinction must be clearly established to avoid confusion, duplication of responsibilities and unnecessary friction within the party’s campaign structure.

The executives maintained that the state executive committee was an integral part of the APC’s organisational structure and should not be sidelined in constituting a state-wide campaign council.

While calling for an immediate review of the list, the aggrieved executives asked the state chairman and other party leaders to consult relevant stakeholders, including Ajibola Basiru, the party’s national secretary.

“Our position is clear: we need a campaign council that respects party structures, recognises legitimate leadership, accommodates critical stakeholders and unites all members towards electoral victory,” they stated.

“The task ahead demands unity, discipline, strategic coordination, and collective responsibility. No legitimate stakeholder should be left behind.”
