Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has dismissed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as overrated, over-pampered and politically spent.
Speaking in an interview on Symfoni TV, Shehu described El-Rufai’s appointment as Deputy Director-General of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as mere cosmetics and a media spectacle that will add no real value to the party.
He insisted that El-Rufai has lost political relevance and lacks the capacity to influence the outcome of the 2027 general elections, regardless of the position handed to him by the ADC.“El-Rufai has been overrated and over-pampered. His appointment as deputy DG is just cosmetics. He can’t influence the 2027 elections. People have been deeply assaulted by El-Rufai’s inhuman economic policies,” Shehu declared.
Shehu recalled the hardship endured by Nigerians, particularly residents of Kaduna State, under El-Rufai’s administration. He cited mass demolitions of houses, the sacking of civil servants and teachers, and high taxes as examples of what he called inhuman and anti-people policies.
According to him, Nigerians have not forgotten the pain of that period, making it impossible for El-Rufai to return in 2027 and successfully ask the same people to vote for the ADC.
Shehu further argued that El-Rufai possesses no electoral value and cannot even deliver Kaduna State for the ADC, let alone shape the presidential contest.
