Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is expected in Sokoto on Wednesday to formally kick off the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The flag-off ceremony will take place at the party’s state secretariat at No. 1 Ilorin Road. According to a statement by the ADC State Presidential Campaign Coordinator, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, Atiku is scheduled to arrive at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport at 9 a.m.
Lamido invited party supporters and members of the public to welcome the former vice president at the airport before proceeding to the venue. He also called on party executives from all 23 local government areas and wards, mobilisation coordinators, support groups, as well as women and youth organisations, to fully mobilise their members for maximum participation.
The event comes against a backdrop of rising political tension in Sokoto. The ADC has accused the state government of sealing its campaign office along Ahmadu Bello Way and has raised concerns about alleged attacks and intimidation of its members and supporters.
Party leaders say the Sokoto campaign launch offers an important opportunity to strengthen grassroots structures and present the ADC’s message to voters in the state as preparations for the 2027 polls intensify.
